DICK Johnson Racing has been dealt an unexpected curveball for the Repco Bathurst 1000, with injury forcing an engineer change on its lead #17 Shell V-Power Mustang.
“Car 17 race engineer George Commins will miss the Repco Bathurst 1000 after sustaining injuries in a mountain biking accident prior to the race weekend,” read a team statement.
“Team manager Tom Moore will take over race engineer duties for Brodie Kostecki and Todd Hazelwood at Mount Panorama while George recuperates at home.
“Everyone at the Shell V-Power Racing Team wishes George a swift recovery.”
The Bathurst 1000 Preview | The Undercut
IT’S the biggest show of the season – The Undercut is back, previewing the 2026 Repco Bathurst 1000, with the V8 Sleuth Aaron Noonan joined in the studio by two of the stars of the big day – Jack Perkins and James Moffat.
Commins, an ex-Formula 1 guru, has been Kostecki’s engineer for the entirety of the latter’s full-time Supercars career dating back to 2021 at Erebus Motorsport.
Together, they have nabbed pole position at each of the past three editions of the Bathurst 1000.
Moore is a readymade replacement at least, himself being a race-winning Supercars engineer.
DJR also has strategy specialist Blake Smith in its corner for the enduros.
