Strongest solar flare since late summer detected as scientists monitor possible geomagnetic impact

AKIPRESS.COM – Scientists at the Solar Astronomy Laboratory of the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences detected an M6.7 class solar flare, the strongest solar explosion recorded since late summer. The last comparable event occurred on August 25 with an M6.9 flare.
Although the flare erupted near the center of the solar disk—putting Earth in its potential line of sight—researchers noted that initial observations show no obvious shock waves or plasma movements heading directly toward the planet.
However, forecaster Mikhail Leus warned earlier that weak to moderate G1-G2 geomagnetic storms are possible on October 9 due to heightened solar activity throughout the week. Two previous M-class flares ejected sizable plasma clouds toward Earth, contributing to the elevated disturbance risks.
