A 53-year-old man has been charged after he allegedly unfurled and hung a Palestinian flag from a bridge near the site of the deadly terror attack in Bondi.

NSW Police said the man was arrested after he allegedly performed offensive hand gestures which witnesses said were in the manner of gunfire.

In a statement, police announced the man had been charged with behave in offensive manner in/near public place/school.

A witness told News24.com.au a man was holding the Palestinian flag over the side of the bridge about 3pm on Friday.

“The most galling part was when I walked past him he made shotgun gestures with his hands off the side of the bridge,” the witness said.

“He did three motions of shooting a gun with his hands.”

The man was refused bail and is set to appear before a bail court on Saturday.

Photographs and footage obtained by News24.com.au show police escorting a man to a police vehicle.

One officer holds the Palestinian flag in his hands.

“He was there for at least five to seven minutes and then police arrived to speak to him,” the witness said.

“In total, there were at least eight officers in the vicinity. They de-escalated the situation, there was no raised voices.

“Police confiscated the flag from him.”
