Witnesses say an erratic and speeding driver came within metres of the Melbourne marathon course after allegedly hitting a pedestrian near Flinders St station in the Melbourne city centre.
Emergency services, including paramedics and multiple police, responded to the incident, with authorities confirming one person was taken to hospital.
Victoria Police are yet to give a public update on the incident or confirm if any arrests have been made.
Multiple witnesses told the ABC they saw a white car driving fast and erratically down Flinders Street, Flinders Lane and Elizabeth Street from around 10.30am this morning.
One local worker told the ABC the car drove through the busy city area multiple times and did not appear to avoid pedestrians crossing in front of Flinders St station.
She said she saw the car hit a pedestrian and described the incident as “really scary.”
“It was really terrible, people were screaming on the road,” she said.
“He was not looking at people, he was driving straight at people.”
The chaos unfolded as thousands of people were running in the Melbourne Marathon on a route that passed by Flinders Street Station at the Swanston Street end.
A spokesperson from Ambulance Victoria confirmed paramedics were called to the incident just before 11am and one person was taken to Royal Melbourne Hospital.

Another witness said he saw people jumping out of the way to avoid the driver.
“[The driver] had no regard for anyone when he was driving, absolutely not, completely erratic, very reckless.”
Victoria Police have been contacted for comment.
