The Triple Eight ace and high profile co-driving recruit Nick Percat were among the pre-event favourites.
However, the #88 Ford Mustang showed no signs of being a threat at any point throughout the weekend.
Placed an average of 18th across the six practice sessions, Feeney was a shock omission from Saturday’s Shootout with just 12th in Friday qualifying.
They finished the 161-lap race in 11th place.
Their struggle was made all the more mysterious by the fact the sister Will Brown/Scott Pye entry qualified sixth and finished second.
“[The pace] wasn’t there, that’s for sure,” Feeney told the Cool Down Lap podcast.
“I probably thought we were a bit better than what we were today to be honest.
“We tried focusing on our race car for most of the weekend, but [it’s a] bit of a head-scratcher.”
Car #88 was delayed by brake trouble in the race, but Feeney said it was not the main issue.
“I’m sure everyone up and down pit lane had brake issues, it’s a category-wide problem at the moment,” he added.
“You saw a lot of people changing brakes today. I don’t think our issues are all because of that. We were just slow.”

Percat, who took the coveted Triple Eight co-drive as his full-time career came to an end, described the weekend as disappointing.
“I think we made a decent step forward come the race and I was first in the car so just kind of settled in for what we knew was going to be a long, long day,” he said.
“As it went on we saw the way tyres were blistering and things like that, so I just tried to look after the car.
“Then unfortunately, in my last stint, something happened with the front brake pads and basically felt like I had no front brakes at all.
“That I just had to manage through the stint – you don’t want to push too hard with something like that instead of getting it back safely so the crew can take a look at it, sort the issue out.
“I managed the car and annoyingly gave up a lot of track time and positions until we came in, fixed it, got back out there and got our speed back.”
Feeney will head into the Finals Series atop the points standings and receives a 25-point bonus for having won the Sprint Cup.
