Junior Paulo is staying with the Eels for another year, with the veteran front-rower on track to bring up the magical 300-game milestone in 2027 if he remains injury free.

There had been strong speculation throughout the year that Paulo would head west to join the Bears for their inaugural season, but talks broke down, which meant he was always likely to stay at Parramatta.

The club confirmed on Thursday morning that the Samoan star had signed on for another season, with Paulo making his debut with the Eels back in 2013.

The 32-year-old spent three seasons with Canberra but returned to the blue and golds in 2019 and has been a mainstay in the middle.

The former State of Origin forward has played 280 NRL matches and will join the 300 club next year barring any hiccups, with Paulo to have some fresh support in 2027 after Spencer Leniu joined the club on a long-term deal.

“What Junior brings to our team goes far beyond his performances on the field,” Eels general manager of football Mark O’Neill said.

“It is not only his leadership and experience, but he is also an outstanding role model, a family man, mentor to our younger players and someone who helps drive the standards and culture of our club every day.

“He’s incredibly well respected throughout the game and, more importantly, he’s well-loved within our organisation.

“Keeping someone of Junior’s character and quality at the Eels is extremely important for our future and we’re delighted he’ll continue his journey with us.”
