Richmond is set to select six top-10 draft picks in three years in a talent turbocharge ahead of the Tasmanian takeover of the draft.
The Tigers hold picks 2 and 5 for next month’s national draft, securing the second of those selections in a final-day trade with Port Adelaide on Wednesday.
Richmond gave up four selections for the prized pick – pick 22 in this year’s draft along with its first-round, second-round and fourth-round picks in 2027.
But it will provide the Tigers with another top-end talent this year, with rival recruiters believing there are around eight standout players in this year’s pool.
Exciting Northern Knights ruckman Harry Van Hattum is one player firmly in the Tigers’ sights, while midfielders Ethan Drever and Heath Mellody and half-forwards Arki Butler and Gus Teixeira shape as other options depending on who gets past other clubs.
Richmond will also secure another start-of-second-round pick as compensation for its No. 2 selection being pushed back by an expected bid on Port Adelaide Next Generation Academy star Dougie Cochrane at No.1.
In other top-order shake-ups, Melbourne moved up its first pick this year from No. 6 to No.4.
The Demons have been linked to Sandringham Dragons forward-midfielder Arki Butler and Woodville-West Torrens key defender Mitch Harris.
The trade of rebounding defender Nick Blakey landed Sydney the No. 6 pick from North Melbourne, after the Swans had entered trade period without a first-round selection following the Charlie Curnow trade of 12 months earlier.
Gold Coast got pick 8 as free agency compensation for Ben King, having also been without a first-round pick heading into the post-season period.
