A single Division One winner has taken the full $100 million prize in Thursday’s Powerball draw, making it one of the biggest individual lottery wins in Australian history.
A woman from Ballina, in northern NSW, claimed the monster win.
She was surrounded by family members when she received the call informing her she is now the country’s equal third biggest lottery winner.
“What the f**k! I’m still in shock. No, this can’t be happening!” she said.
“We recently had a death in the family, and I think it’s a sign from them; they’re so looking after me! We’ve had signs all day from them.”
The woman said she would use some of the money to pay off her mortgage and help family members.
“This will help a lot of people. Not just me, but lots of my family members,” she said.
She added that she only purchased a ticket in the draw after all her relatives did.
“They actually all put a ticket on for tonight, and I had a bit of fomo (fear of missing out). I only bought my ticket not long before the draw closed.”
Powerball draw 1587 produced the winning numbers 14, 24, 15, 3, 27, 32 and 30, with Powerball 16.
The result came after five consecutive Powerball draws failed to produce a Division One winner, pushing the jackpot out to $100m.
Up to half of Australian adults are thought to have bought a ticket for Thursday’s draw.
The winning entry was the only ticket in Division One nationally, securing the full $100 million prize.
There were also 12 Division Two winners, who will each collect $172,306.45, sharing a combined Division Two prize pool of $2,067,677.40.
The Lott spokesperson Khat McIntyre said there were “only a handful” of Australians who knew what it was like to win that kind of money.
Before Thursday night’s win, the game had reached the $100 million milestone or higher just 13 times, producing about 16 Division One winning entries in total.
Recent nine-figure Powerball jackpots have included the $200 million draw in February 2024, which was shared by two winners; the $150 million draw in May 2024, won by a single ticket; the $100 million draw in August 2024, won by one ticket; and the $100 million draw in June 2025, also won by one ticket.
The one in June 2025 remains unclaimed after a winning ticket was purchased at Bondi Junction Newsagency in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.
