On Sunday, Amanda Seyfried attended an annual gala for the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures.
While on the red carpet, she was stopped for an interview by The Hollywood Reporter. The journalist had just three words for the actress: “How’s your life?”
On the surface, the question seems simple. That is, until you consider what has recently transpired in Seyfried’s life — both professionally and personally.
“It’s interesting. Yeah. It’s interesting,” Seyfried replied.
Interesting, indeed. And for more than one reason.

In September, Seyfried told PEOPLE that she and her husband of nine years, Thomas Sadoski, planned to divorce after being separated “for a while”.
“It’s proven to be the right move for us and our family unit,” said Seyfried, who shares two kids with Sadoski.
During the red-carpet interview, the journalist acknowledged that it couldn’t be easy for Seyfried to be doing interviews at the moment.
“I think everything that’s happening is meant to happen,” the actress replied.
Seyfried looked visibly emotional as she said, “Yeah, but for good reason. I don’t know, I think everything that’s happening is meant to happen. Everyone that’s meant to be in your life is meant to be in your life… I’m here tonight and meant to be here, and I go home tomorrow and I’m meant to be home, and so on and so forth.”
The interviewer then tried a different tack, asking whether her circumstances made party conversations difficult.
“Only of late,” Seyfried replied.
Seyfried appeared to be doing her best to navigate a difficult interview. But some fans wondered whether there was more to her answers than met the eye.
Because there’s another rather “interesting” development in the actress’s life: her connection to infamous fraudster Elizabeth Holmes.
Seyfried won an Emmy for her portrayal of Holmes in the 2022 miniseries The Dropout, and has now made a cameo in a newly-released documentary about the convicted felon.
Holmes is currently in prison for defrauding investors of her healthcare business, Theranos. The founder falsely claimed the company had technology that could use a pinprick of blood to perform a comprehensive range of tests.
A series of investigative articles by The Wall Street Journal eventually uncovered the truth, and Holmes was sentenced to over 11 years in federal prison on charges of wire fraud and conspiracy.
However, in September, news broke that Holmes would be moved to a halfway house next August, and is scheduled to be released in February 2030.
This week, the new Holmes documentary — You Can See Everything directed by Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim — has been released to North American audiences. And Seyfried plays an unexpectedly important part in the project.
In a confusingly meta twist, Seyfried appears in the film as herself and as her version of Holmes. At one point, the star even criticises herself [Seyfried] while in character as Holmes, speaking about her part in the 2022 miniseres, The Dropout.
The scene was said to be a re-enactment of an unfilmed visit between the documentary’s director, Fielder, and the real Holmes in prison, who apparently told Fielder that she doesn’t want something like The Dropout “to happen ever again.”
Acting out the scene as Holmes, Seyfried criticises a woman who would “do that” to another woman, saying that many of her fellow inmates believe that the miniseries depicted entirely real events.
In another scene, this time speaking as herself, Seyfried defends the series as a dramatisation grounded in “ridiculous amounts of research”. She adds that she studied 10 hours of deposition tapes to prepare for the role.
The actress also denied doing anything to Holmes by participating in the project, saying “She did that to herself… it’s not lies. It’s f—king TV.”
Understandably, the scenes have prompted plenty of discussion online, and Seyfried’s latest interview has only added to the speculation.
It was clear during the exchange there were ‘things Seyfried can’t talk about’. Perhaps the divorce? The documentary cameo? Another project in the works — particularly given the unexpected assortment of topics Seyfried went on to discuss?
When asked how best to engage with her, Seyfried replied, “I like to talk about emus, I like to talk about the emus. And I like to talk about Halloween. And you can engage with me if you want to talk about all things having to do with like, apple pie and… olives. And really good hard ciders.”
Whatever was going on during that red-carpet interview, Seyfried herself seemed just as baffled by her answers.
Commenting on a clip of the interview, posted to the Hollywood Reporter’s Instagram, Seyfried wrote: “What AM I even saying?”
Similarly, when podcast host Evan Ross Katz shared quotes from Seyfried on his Instagram with the caption “I love her big, beautiful brain!”, Seyfried replied: “It’s medium tbh.”
On the same red carpet, Seyfried stilled when approached by a Variety reporter.
“Don’t ask me anything! Do not ask me anything,” she joked.
The actress, however, answered questions anyway. Including two related to Holmes.
When asked if The Dropout would return for a second season, Seyfried replied: “I don’t think so. But life is long.”
The Jennifer’s Body star was also asked if she has kept up with Holmes’ story, to which she said: “on and off.”
