THERE will not be a NASCAR presence in the Repco Supercars Championship field at this year’s bp Adelaide Grand Final.
The desire for Cup Series drivers to make cameo appearances at the South Australian street race has been a recurring theme in recent times.
After false starts with the likes of Kyle Larson, the crossover initiative got off the ground last year with 2022 Daytona 500 winner Austin Cindric committing to a Tickford Racing wildcard.
Cindric impressed in how he went about his business but struggled for outright pace, bringing home results of 23rd, 23rd and 21st.
While it was known that Ford would likely not double down on an American wildcard for 2026, Chevrolet had publicly expressed its interest and Toyota too had seemed open to it.
Chevrolet’s bid was attached to Shane van Gisbergen’s teammate Connor Zilisch, while Ty Gibbs was the driver linked to a potential Toyota/Walkinshaw TWG effort.
V8 Sleuth understands both sets of plans have now officially been shelved. That is perhaps unsurprising given the tightening timeline to Adelaide (November 26-29).
Whether another attempt will be made for 2027 remains to be seen.
