The AFL has locked in details for Geelong’s Qualifying Final against Brisbane at the MCG

The AFL has confirmed match details for both Qualifying Finals, with Geelong preparing for a blockbuster clash against Brisbane to kick off their September campaign.

The Cats and Lions will do battle on Friday September 5 at the MCG in the Second Qualifying Final, with the opening bounce at 7.40pm AEST.

Geelong earned the right to host a Qualifying Final after securing a top two spot with their victory over Richmond, finishing in the top four for the 15th time in the last 19 seasons.

2025 is also Geelong’s 11th top-two finish across that span, the seventh time they have acheived the feat since Chris Scott took over the reins in 2011.

It will be a chance for the Cats to exact some revenge on the Lions nearly 12 months on from an epic Preliminary Final battle, where Brisbane prevailed by 10-points in a heart-stopper at the MCG.

AFL Head of Strategy and Scheduling Josh Bowler acknowledged the race for the remaining finals spots was still on.

“Wednesday night’s rescheduled game still has an impact on the final eight but with the top four locked in we wanted to give fans some certainty and allow them to plan,” said Bowler.

“We still have an incredibly exciting final match of the home and away season to come with the Gold Coast SUNS playing for a spot in their first finals series.

“On behalf of the AFL I would like to thank the more than seven million fans who have attended matches so far this season and the millions more who tuned in, along with every club, player, coach, umpire, staff member, and all our commercial and broadcast partners.”

Earlier this month, the AFL announced for the tenth year running a price freeze on entry level tickets for all Finals matches across Weeks One to Three.

Tickets for the two Qualifying Finals will go on sale on Thursday with timings to be confirmed later today.

All matches in Week One of the 2025 Toyota AFL Finals Series will be broadcast live nationally on the Seven Network and Fox Footy and streamed live on Kayo.

The 2025 Toyota AFL Grand Final will be held at the MCG on Saturday, September 27 at 2:30pm AEST.
