FlatOut 4: Total Insanity VR has left Steam Early Access with an overhaul that lets players ride in another racer’s passenger seat. Version 1.0 also adds optional FlatOut 2 physics and AI, plus two remastered tracks from that game.

The developers’ launch announcement describes a larger release than originally planned. FlatOut 4’s own AI remains the default, while players can select the classic handling and opponents in settings.
Multiplayer spectators can join the race from the passenger seat
Players joining a race already in progress can watch while they wait, including from inside another player’s car. AI racers can fill empty grid positions, and automatic host migration is intended to keep a session going if its host disconnects.

An experimental multiplayer weapons setting is also included. The developers say they are continuing to refine it, so it should be treated as an unfinished option within the full release.
Other additions include first-person driver ejections, updated stereo mirrors and revised point-and-click menus. Wheel compatibility has expanded, alongside bHaptics support and motion-rig telemetry.

Players can publish custom liveries through Steam Workshop
A new in-game livery editor handles vehicle designs. An open-source desktop editor offers more detailed work, including layers, and supports importing new vehicles.
Steam Workshop integration lets players publish their liveries and subscribe to other people’s designs. Track-creation tools are planned for later; they are not described as part of version 1.0.
The update also brings back the FlatOut 2 GT and adds an experimental motorcycle. Its handling and balance remain under development.
The PC VR release is available on Steam. Quest owners using a gaming PC can also consult the recent changes to Steam Link USB streaming. That connection option does not make the game a standalone Quest release.
