Zach Hyman could be staring down another injury absence.
The Edmonton Oilers forward left Monday’s game against the Detroit Red Wings early in the second period after taking a hard hit into the boards from Andreas Englund.
Hyman hit his head hard on the glass and appeared dazed. He made his way back to the bench with assistance from team training staff.
He left the game with 8:25 TOI and two shots on target.
“I didn’t like to see (Hyman) go,” Edmonton head coach Mike Babcock said after what ended as a 4-3 shootout loss to the Red Wings. “We’re hoping to get guys back, not losing more guys. That affected our lineup a bit.”
Hyman was in his fifth game of the season since returning to the Oilers lineup after suffering an injury in the pre-season finale. The 34-year-old has one goal on the season.
“Any time you get injured twice, it’s not a good sign,” Babcock later added. “He’s a very important piece for us, so that wasn’t fun to watch that.”
