A routine pre-game tradition at the World Series has turned into a discussion around the WNBA.

The WNBA found itself back in the crosshairs during the Finals after both Atlanta and Golden State skipped the national anthem, heading straight down the tunnel instead. Valkyries coach Natalie Nakase tried cooling the temperature, claiming it was nothing political and simply how they run their pregame.

That didn’t stop the outrage machine from firing up, though. Donald Trump took straight aim at the league over the move, while also piling into LeBron James after a clip surfaced of the NBA icon casually stretching and taking imaginary golf swings while the anthem played.

The Knicks are now 0-3 to start the season 🤯! What do you think has gone wrong for Jalen Brunson and co. so far?

MLB shows the WNBA how it’s done with national anthem at World Series

Before Game 3 of the MLB World Series kicked off between the Milwaukee Brewers and the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field, country star Carly Pearce stepped up to belt out the national anthem.

Both dugouts lined up along the chalk with caps pressed to their chests, putting on a united front. It was standard baseball tradition, but it ended up striking a chord with fans looking to make a point.

Fans point to the clear disconnect between the WNBA and the MLB, with many stating that the Brewers and Rays showed how the national anthem should be done.

One fan said: “HEY @WNBA watch and learn. This is game 3 of the World Series and every game, every player stands with caps on chest, showing proper respect for our national anthem. This is how it’s done. YOU SHOULD TRY IT.”

“America’s sport done the American way.” Another added.

This supporter added: “They could fix it, but they’d rather have controversy than quality!”

“@WNBA stand for our national anthem. What is your problem?” Said one fan.

Lastly, a fan pointed out how the MLB sets the standard: “MLB has its problems, but it never insults the USA.”

Ditching the anthem just feels completely counterproductive. When the league spends so much time begging people to focus on the hoops and give the players their flowers, walking into an obvious culture war trap makes zero sense.

Why moan that nobody’s talking about the basketball when you’re handing critics free ammo?
