Actor E A Rajendran recently addressed the wave of sarcastic comments and speculation about his health following his appearance at the recent AMMA elections. In an interview with the YouTube channel Mainstream One, the couple clarified that Rajendran’s weight loss was the result of medical advice to manage his sugar levels and not due to any illness.

Rajendran explained that he reduced weight as per his doctor’s instructions and added that age, too, was a natural factor. He pointed out that his son has now entered films and that they also run a successful production company, one of the biggest producers of serials in South India. Referring to the pension rumours, he dismissed them outright, stating that he had no reason to seek a pension from AMMA. He further noted that he had attended the election simply to vote for his relative, actor Devan, and expressed confidence in the current office bearers to lead the organisation effectively. Looking back at his career, he said times and cinema have changed, recalling that he had the opportunity to work with master directors and adding that Jayaraj’s film ‘Perumkaliyattam’, which he acted in, is ready for release.

The discussion came after a video of Rajendran at the AMMA election went viral, where he appeared thin and frail, sparking a flood of speculation and even mocking comments online. Rajendran’s wife Sandhya had earlier responded to one such comment through a reel video, and in the interview she explained why she felt the need to react.

According to her, the weight loss was purely the result of medical advice, as the doctor had warned that he should not gain excess weight. Since Rajendran enjoys food, he had been following a strict diet and even monitored his water intake. While many well-wishers expressed genuine concern, Sandhya said some crossed the line by spreading false claims with confidence, which made others believe them. She admitted that one such comment upset her deeply, prompting her to reply. She initially wanted to ask how anyone could write with such authority about another person’s health without checking the facts.

Sandhya, who is the sister of actor and MLA Mukesh, added that such careless assumptions are damaging and urged people to be more responsible when making comments online.
