The outfit will join the championship as its only new entrant for the 2027-2029 cycle, with the remaining 10 teams continuing from this season.

Its approval comes after the reigning Formula 1 world champion launched the LN4 Fusion operation in September.

The newcomer takes the place previously held by AIX Racing, from which it bought selected assets, and will compete under an Italian licence.

Formula 2 will continue with 11 teams running two cars apiece, leaving the field at 22 drivers.

F2 CEO Bruno Michel said the championship had received considerable interest from prospective teams ahead of the latest selection process.

“I am also pleased to welcome LN4 Fusion to the grid. They will bring considerable expertise, and I am confident they will make a valuable contribution to the championship,” Michel said.

The F2 confirmation advances a project Norris set up with karting outfit Fusion Motorsport and financial backers headed by Dan Richards, with entries planned across several junior categories.

LN4 CEO Dan Richards said securing the entry moved the organisation closer to the ambitions established at its launch.

“We are incredibly proud to have been selected to join the FIA Formula 2 grid for 2027,” Richards said.

Richards acknowledged that the team still faced a difficult task as it prepared to enter F2.

“We recognise the level of competition in Formula 2 and the challenge ahead of us,” he added.

“Our focus is now firmly on building the right foundations, surrounding ourselves with exceptional people and giving our drivers and team the best possible opportunity to compete at the highest level.”

Rene Rosin, previously in charge of Prema, is team principal for LN4 Fusion’s European operation, while the Italian team’s former technical chief Guillaume Capietto is racing director.

The team has already announced James Egozi, Gabriel Gomez and Dion Gowda for its 2027 Formula 3 campaign, although its two F2 drivers are yet to be confirmed.

The 2027 F2 field will also include Australian James Wharton, who has signed with Trident for his first full season in the category after spending the past two years in F3.
