The Conjuring: James Wan’s franchise has become somewhat of a horror phenomenon over the last decade and a bit, with eight movies to boot (a few of which have been added to Netflix). And if you’re yet to catch up, where better to start than at the very beginning.
The 2013 film introduces us on screen to paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, as they look into disturbing events at the Perron family’s farmhouse in the early 1970s.
Boasting 86% on Rotten Tomatoes, San Francisco Chronicle says The Conjuring is “artfully crafted from the first scares to the closing credits”.

ET: The Extra-Terrestrial: Steven Spielberg’s sci-fi flick still enchants over 44 years later, so there is no better time to catch up on the family classic.
The story follows the titular extraterrestrial after he’s left behind on Earth. There, he befriends a boy called Elliott who tries to help him find his way home.
Featuring many iconic moments, including that magical bike sequence and lines such as “ET phone home”, the film “remains a piece of movie magic for young and old”, according to Rotten Tomatoes, where it holds a near-perfect 99%.

Together with Nick ‘Goose’ Bradshaw, the pair are given the chance to train at the US Navy’s Fighter Weapons School (aka Top Gun) – though Maverick’s attitude puts him at odds with the other pilots.
