And while they could still finish minor premiers with an absolute North Melbourne meltdown, the 13.10 (88) to 3.2 (20) victory was enough to seal that home final next week – albeit not at GMHBA Stadium.

The Cats were on from the opening term with four goals to one start. And it didn’t get any better from there for the visitors.

Despite coach Tamara Hyett’s quarter time spray where she then told Fox Footy: “We got taught a lesson” and accused players of lacking discipline, Geelong kicked the next five goals to essentially seal the match by halftime in worrying signs for the Dogs.

“It was pretty poor from us – and we know that,” Dogs star Heidi Woodley said coming out of the break.

Despite a top four spot on the line for Hyett’s side with a win, they were lacking in star power without Isabelle Prichard (knee) and Ellie Blackburn (rested).

And it left their backline vulnerable as Cats forwards Jacqueline Parry (five goals), Chantal Mason (three) and Chloe Scheer (two) ran riot.

The Cats were so strong they eclipsed North Melbourne’s all-time record in the final term as the highest scoring team in an AFLW home-and-away season.

And Friday night’s victory ensured the Cats claimed a stunning 12th straight win with their home final locked in.

But that match won’t be played at GMHBA Stadium due to a venue clash with Australia’s premier Supercross AUSX Open in Geelong.

“Disappointed we can’t play at home next week, but guess we can make whatever home ground we play our home,” Parry said post-match.

The Dogs will now need to wait on other results of the round to see where they finish in season 2026.
