Renda Media has rebranded talk WGUF as “98.9 The Gulf,” introducing a new format featuring classic pop, soft rock and timeless standards to listeners in Naples, Marco Island and Southwest Florida.

The station officially adopted the new name and format Nov. 1, offering a mix of familiar hits from artists including Frank Sinatra, the Eagles, the Carpenters, Billy Joel, Neil Diamond and Whitney Houston.

Operating under the slogan “Great Songs. Still Cool.” The new outlet is designed to provide a relaxed listening experience that reflects the lifestyle of Southwest Florida, according to the company.

The station’s music lineup includes selections from Barry Manilow, Barbra Streisand, Lionel Richie, Kenny Rogers, Michael Bublé and Celine Dion, along with other established performers.

Renda Media said the format is intended to bring back songs that have become increasingly difficult to find on the radio.

The rebranding adds another format to Renda Media’s Southwest Florida portfolio, which includes country “Gator Country 101.9” WWGR, adult hits “102.9 Bob FM” WJGO, and hot AC “104.7 The Mix” WSGL, all in Fort Myers.
