DECLAN Fraser will make a shock return to the Super2 scene he conquered in 2022 in an extension of his post-PremiAir Racing activities.
Fraser and PremiAir parted ways at Supercars Championship level following last month’s Bathurst 1000 to accommodate the early arrival of Cooper Murray from Erebus Motorsport.
Having issued an initial statement in response to the turn of events, Fraser didn’t stay invisible for long, surfacing in the Gold Coast 500 paddock before competing at last weekend’s Shannons SpeedSeries finale at Sandown in Mustang Cup Australia.
Now he’ll make it back-to-back race meetings at Sandown, joining Matt Stone Racing’s Dunlop Super2 Series roster for the penultimate round of the season.

He will slot into the Holden ZB Commodore vacated by Tommy Smith, who has made an immediate switch to Anderson Motorsport.
“I feel extremely privileged to have received the call from Matt and the team at MSR saying they need a driver for the weekend. The racer in me doesn’t need to be asked twice,” said Fraser.
“The team has shown promise this year. I hope to bring my enthusiasm and experience to the weekend to get a result for all the hard work MSR puts in.
“The competitor in me wants to go out there to win it, especially with the opportunity I’ve been given.
“The reality is we won’t know where we’re at until we get into the first phases of the weekend to see what sort of pace we have. I can’t wait to work with the team’s engineers to try to extract some speed, then turn that into results for them.
Supercars Finals & Team Orders | The Undercut
THE Supercars Finals have landed for 2026, leaving plenty to unpack in this week’s episode of The Undercut!
“I’m familiar with the ZB from my time in the T8 wildcard alongside Craig Lowndes at the 1000. I love the car, so it will be a bit of a homecoming of sorts.”
It is not yet clear whether this opportunity is a precursor to a 2027 Enduro Cup co-drive for Fraser, or even if he’ll continue for Adelaide Super2 later this month.
It should however give Fraser and MSR a simultaneous chance to rebuild their stocks.
Fraser, now 26, won from pole in each of his past two Super2 starts to seal the second-tier title in a Holden VF Commodore before graduating to the main game.
MSR meanwhile has had a brutal return to the Dunlop Series, with just a single top 10 result recorded across either of its cars through the opening four rounds.
“We thank Tommy for his efforts with MSR and wish him all the best as he takes on this new opportunity to test out Ford machinery with another Super2 team,” said team owner Matt Stone.
“We look forward to continuing to work with him in TA2 and finishing the season strongly together.
“It’s great that Declan was able to step in with such short notice, he has a lot of experience and no doubt will be a great addition. We’re looking forward to having him onboard at Sandown.”
