Serica releases a new Golden Green colour option for its Travel Chronometer reference 8315-03.
It features a new two-tone ceramic bezel with asymmetrical golden green and ivory sections, plus a dark olive green enamel dial.
The new Serica Travel Chronometer Ref. 8315-03 Golden Green is now available through the Time+Tide shop, priced at EUR €2,090.
As with many French brands, Serica injects a sense of charm and whimsy into its practical, tool-oriented timepieces. From its diver for the French Navy to its dressy Parade models, Serica has a distinctive style that makes the watches immediately identifiable and never sacrifices daily wearability, with all models featuring robust water resistance. The brand’s GMT, the Travel Chronometer Ref. 8315, features an asymmetrical bezel for the day and night sections, providing a clearer view of operational hours and making the bezel a defining, charming detail that makes Serica stand out. As an update to the Travel Chronometer collection, Serica introduces its new Golden Green colourway, featuring a two-tone ivory and golden green bezel and a dark olive green enamel dial.
The stainless steel case of the Serica Travel Chronometer Ref. 8315 measures 39mm in diameter, 12.2mm thick, 46.5mm lug-to-lug, and has a 20mm lug width. The 200m water-resistant case features a mix of brushed and polished finishes, with swooping lyre lugs with a polished outer facet, and a double-domed sapphire crystal with an inner anti-reflective coating.
As already mentioned, the bezel features an asymmetrical two-tone ceramic insert, with the shorter golden-green section delineating nighttime hours, and the lighter ivory section showing daytime hours. Each section features contrasting numerals in 12-hour format, making it easier to reference the time in your chosen second time zone. As keen GMT enthusiasts may already know, creating two-tone ceramic inserts can be quite challenging, and this new bezel from Serica is no different. Serica mentions that each new colour requires months of development, trial, and error to arrive at the desired finished product. This is even more impressive considering the asymmetrical coloured sections and the distinctive tones that Serica achieves.
The Ref. 8513-03 also gets a new dial. While it is more subdued than the bezel, the dark olive green enamel dial is subtle enough to read as a standard black sport watch dial at first glance, but a closer look reveals the warm green hue. The heavily domed indices are surrounded by gold accents and are made of C3 Super-LumiNova. The large white-enamel broad-arrow style hour and minute hands are also filled with C3 Super-LumiNova, and the large lollipop style GMT hand is filled with a burnt-orange colour at the tip, giving it a distinctive, vintage-referencing look without the full “faux-tina” treatment. In typical Serica fashion, the dial is void of any large branding, with the most prominent dial printing located at the bottom of the dial, featuring the movement’s COSC Chronometer certification and the case’s 200 metres of water resistance, printed in gold font.
The movement inside is a COSC-chronometer-certified automatic-winding Soprod C125. It features 23 jewels, a 48-hour power reserve, shock-proofing, a decorated plate, and operates at 28,800 bph. The Soprod C125 is a “caller-style” GMT, meaning that the 24-hour hand is independently adjustable.
The Serica Travel Chronometer Ref. 8315-03 comes standard with the brand’s integrated mesh-style Expedition bracelet. The bracelet features an infinitely adjustable clasp and guilloché-engraved fitted end-links. The bracelet features finely finished brushed-mesh links with polished outer links, creating an elegant steel bracelet that handles sport watch duty while maintaining a more put-together appearance.
Serica’s ability to balance elegance and practicality makes the brand’s timepieces stand out in a crowd of sport and tool watches. The brand’s watches deviate from the norm in just the right ways, making them feel familiar while still being unique. The purists may cry heresy; I am still eagerly awaiting an update to the Ref. 8315, where the model gets a very practical date window.
