Sarp Ataman is unofficially the youngest ever assistant coach in Eurobasket history

Riga, Latvia – It’s not a secret that Sarp Ataman wants to follow in the footsteps of his father and become a coach. And this includes also the Turkish national team in EuroBasket 2025.
Sarp Ataman, who has always been close to his father on the basketball courts, is a “volunteer” assistant coach for Turkey, as Ergin Ataman confirmed.
As coach Ataman, a three-time EuroLeague champion with Anadolu Efes and Panathinaikos, said in the press conference when asked on the matter: “For sure, he is not officially, because he is only 15 years old, but he spent the whole preparation period with us and he is helping the team in scouting. He knows basketball very well, so he helps me, helps the players, and we can say that he is a volunteer assistant coach”.
On the follow-up question, if there’s a chance that anyone will offer him a job after this experience, Ergin Ataman smiled and said: “We will see, maybe…”
