If\u00a0Jimmy Barnes<\/a> does get the nod to perform at the 2025 NRL Grand Final, he\u2019ll have company.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Earlier this week<\/a>, the two-time ARIA Hall of Fame inducted rock hero told Triple M Breakfast that he\u2019d \u201ckeep the date free\u201d to perform the NRL\u2019s showpiece event \u2014 an appropriate setting to celebrate the milestone anniversary of his signature solo song.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThey haven\u2019t called me yet. But the 40th anniversary of \u2018Working Class Man\u2019 at the NRL would be a killer wouldn\u2019t it? Couple of hard working fellas at the NRL,\u201d Barnes remarked.<\/p>\n

He continued, \u201cI\u2019d love to mate because it\u2019s the NRL Grand Final, it\u2019s one of the biggest games of any sport in the world. It\u2019s like the State of Origin. You don\u2019t see anybody play a game this tough anywhere in the world, and to have the final in Sydney. I\u2019ve played a bunch of them and it\u2019s always electric and a fantastic place to be. It\u2019s just a shame the Tigers aren\u2019t going to be there.\u201d<\/p>\n

The legendary Glasgow-born singer won\u2019t have to go it alone.<\/p>\n

Kate Ceberano, another great of Australian music, has reached out, doing so in the comments section of The Music Network\u2019s earlier post.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cHey Jimmy Barnes. I\u2019m putting my hand up to come sing \u2018Simply The Best\u2019 with you,\u201d she writes.<\/p>\n

Should the magic happen, Ceberano would slot in for the late, great Tina Turner, who rerecorded \u201cSimply The Best\u201d as a duet<\/a> with Barnes to promote the 1992 season for what was then known as the New South Wales Rugby League (NSWRL).<\/p>\n

Jimmy has performed at several NRL Grand Finals, including the 2022, 2001, and 1997 clincher, when he performed \u201cSimply The Best\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Ceberano and Barnes go way back. Her pop-funk act I\u2019m Talking toured Australia with Barnes in 1986 and \u201987 for the legendary Australian Made concerts.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Just last week, Ceberano walked the red carpet<\/a> at the Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) for the premiere of Barnes\u2019 Working Class Man<\/a> documentary, directed by Andrew Farrell\u00a0and the followup to 2018\u2019s Working Class Boy.<\/p>\n

Barnes and his band Cold Chisel had a handful of songs appear in triple j\u2019s Hottest 100 of Australian Songs<\/a>, including \u201cFlame Trees\u201d at No. 7, \u201cKhe Sanh\u201d at No. 8, and \u201cWorking Class Man\u201d at No. 56.<\/p>\n

All of it follows the release of his latest studio album<\/a>, DEFIANT (via Mushroom Music), which opened at No. 1 on the ARIA Chart in May, extending his record for most leaders with 16. As a member of Cold Chisel, that number rises to 22.<\/p>\n

Ceberano has won Dancing With The Stars, collected five ARIA Awards and in 2016 was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM), but is long overdue induction into the ARIA Hall of Fame.<\/p>\n
