You\u2019re not alone, with almost four in five <a class=\"css-445i33-StyledTextLink ezegcyi0\" data-link-type=\"article-inline\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.perthnow.com.au\/wa\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">West Australians<\/a> negatively impacted by inadequate speeds \u2014 but a massive network upgrade set to sweep the nation next month aims to change that.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">NBN will partner with national phone and internet providers to launch their latest upgrade Accelerate Great on September 14, a roll-out offering <a class=\"css-445i33-StyledTextLink ezegcyi0\" data-link-type=\"article-inline\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.perthnow.com.au\/news\/australia\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Australians<\/a> a historic boost in their internet speeds without them needing to pay a cent more.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Aussies on an eligible internet or phone plan with download speeds over 100Mbps will automatically have their speeds boosted through their provider \u2014 with NBN estimating some plans will accelerate to five times their current speed, or 500Mbps.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">NBN has confirmed their Home Fast, Home Superfast, and Home Ultrafast plans will all experience more than double their current speeds.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">The roll-out is not only limited to upgrading pre-existing broadband packages, however \u2014 two brand-new plans said to be \u201ctwice as fast as the fastest residential plan\u201d will also be launched, offering download speeds of 2000Mbps.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/43444ea55e3dbb9c8763e9c9cffe82b2c7f3ea7b.jpg\" alt=\"The NBN is upgrading its network to deliver faster internet speeds. Supplied Credit: News Corp Australia<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">With Western Australia containing more than a million premises eligible for the highest speeds, NBN spokesperson Jane McNamara said the upgrade would transform digital experiences across the state.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cThe new speeds are a monumental leap forward for the NBN network and Australia as a whole,\u201d she told <a class=\"css-445i33-StyledTextLink ezegcyi0\" data-link-type=\"article-inline\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.perthnow.com.au\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">PerthNow<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cThey mean we can support Australian homes and <a class=\"css-445i33-StyledTextLink ezegcyi0\" data-link-type=\"article-inline\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.perthnow.com.au\/news\/business\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">businesses<\/a> to stay ahead of the curve and handle the data demands of today and in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Why is there such a need for boosted speeds, however?<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Telecommunication researcher Omdia discovered Australians spend on average more than six and a half hours a day online, streaming and gaming more than ever before.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">The number of internet-connected devices per household has also risen, from two devices in 2015 to 25 currently \u2014 and with 61 per cent of WA residents saying faster internet would improve their time at home, the upgrade could not have come at a better time.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/6cb9c0cac3c64e6be220be3bec27f2d143ea41df.jpg\" alt=\"The amount of internet-connected devices owned in WA households has boomed over the last 10 years, requiring urgent speed upgrades. \" class=\"css-16r7l45-StyledImage en5ut4d0\"\/>Camera IconThe amount of internet-connected devices owned in WA households has boomed over the last 10 years, requiring urgent speed upgrades.  Credit: Supplied<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Ms McNamara told PerthNow there are three easy steps West Aussies need to follow to take full advantage of the accelerated speeds: get ready, get set, and get great.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cEnhanced speed plans are only available via Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) or Hybrid Fibre Coaxial (HFC) technology, so check the NBN website to confirm your eligibility,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cIf needed, contact your internet or phone provider to take up an eligible plan that will deliver these enhanced speeds.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cFinally, make sure the internet equipment in your home can keep up with the new speeds \u2014 check the age of the Wi-Fi router, make sure it\u2019s well positioned in the home away from obstacles and interference, and check the coverage throughout the house.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Australians are encouraged to check the <a class=\"css-445i33-StyledTextLink ezegcyi0\" data-link-type=\"article-inline\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nbnco.com.au\/\">NBN website<\/a> or contact their internet provider directly for further information about the roll-out and how it will impact their service.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Sick and tired of slow internet?
