Conor McGregor says he has the political support needed to make it onto the ballot for president of Ireland.<\/p>\n
McGregor has been seriously talking up a run for president since visiting Donald Trump in the White House back on St. Patrick\u2019s Day. But few took him seriously \u2014 to get on the ballot he\u2019d need to be nominated by 20 members of the Oireachtas (National Parliament) or 4 county councils. There\u2019s 220 members and 31 councils, but past media polls had McGregor\u2019s support amongst them at zero.<\/a><\/p>\n According to \u201cThe Notorious,\u201d that\u2019s not the case any more. When asked how he\u2019d secure a nomination, he said it was already a done deal.<\/p>\n \u201cI have it secured,\u201d McGregor wrote on X (formerly Twitter). \u201cI have councils on board. [Teachta D\u00e1las]. Senators. I even have the most prestigious party of them all. It is now about choosing my affiliation. Ireland\u2019s Call will be answered. I am here for the will of the people. Only.\u201d<\/p>\n If this is true, it\u2019s big news for McGregor and Ireland. While the former UFC fighter\u2019s reputation in his home country is tarnished after several years<\/a> of non-stop scandals,<\/a> the establishment was concerned enough about his political pull to cancel plans<\/a> which would have allowed Dublin voters to directly elect their mayor.<\/p>\n
