Nick Cannon<\/a> has given a rare insight into his six-year marriage to Mariah Carey<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The 44-year-old, who shares two children with the pop princess, 56, revealed that despite their individual success, when they wed he was happy to stand aside and let her shine.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He opened up about his views on respecting each other’s work during a chat on his podcast, Nick Cannon @ Night<\/a> when asked if he would be OK being with a woman who puts her work before him.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“Absolutely. I’ve been with many women that have put their work before me,” he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Cannon explained that when they were married, they both respected that work was an important thing for each of them.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“When I was married, that was what we respected and actually admired about one another, is that we were both on our own boss level trajectory,” he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“She was already there. I love the fact that she put all of her work, all of her passion, all of her art first, and I could be there to be that support.”\u00a0<\/p>\n

For Cannon, he thought it was “dope” that when she turned hers on, he turned his off, which meant he was there to be the one on the sidelines.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“I was very comfortable in supporting her,” he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The former Nickelodeon star admitted “most men don’t get to marry Mariah Carey.”<\/p>\n

“I went in understanding, like, wow, this is one of the most amazing people to ever grace this planet, so I was able to play my position in a way,” he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“But I think in my nature, I’m so confident in who I am that no matter if you’re having a hard day, I’ve got a pillow, this is your soft girl era, go ahead and sit down.”\u00a0<\/p>\n

Cannon explained that he will always give what he needs to give in that moment in his relationships.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“It’s that type of energy I feel like whatever you need from me, if you need me to be the man and buck up for a second, I can be that, or if you just need me to fall back, I can be that, as well,” he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The couple were first linked in 2008 after he starred in one of her music videos. <\/p>\n

After just a few months of dating their whirlwind romance amped up and they secretly tied the knot during a private ceremony in the Bahamas.\u00a0<\/p>\n

They went on to welcome twins, Moroccan and Monroe, in 2011.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In 2014 the couple shocked fans when they called it quits after six years of marriage. <\/p>\n

Two years later they finalised their divorce and despite some tense times during their split, the pair appear to be on good terms now.<\/p>\n
