{"id":102024,"date":"2025-08-28T11:19:11","date_gmt":"2025-08-28T11:19:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/102024\/"},"modified":"2025-08-28T11:19:11","modified_gmt":"2025-08-28T11:19:11","slug":"wa-and-perth-weather-long-range-forecast-promises-a-sunny-spring-with-low-rainfall","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/102024\/","title":{"rendered":"WA and Perth Weather: Long range forecast promises a sunny spring with low rainfall"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">West Aussies have endured one of the wettest winters on record, but a newly-released long-range <a class=\"css-445i33-StyledTextLink ezegcyi0\" data-link-type=\"article-inline\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.perthnow.com.au\/wa\/weather\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">forecast<\/a> has promised a very different outlook for spring.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">The Bureau of Meteorology have confirmed that spring bring a 50-60 per cent chance of below median rainfall, with a 65 to 70 per cent chance of below median for much of the coastal South West.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cThe South West of WA can expect to receive below average rainfall in the spring season,\u201d a spokesperson at the Bureau of Meteorology said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\"><a class=\"css-445i33-StyledTextLink ezegcyi0\" data-link-type=\"article-inline\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.perthnow.com.au\/wa\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">WA<\/a> is expected to experience average temperatures for much of the State with 65-80 percent chance of above median temperatures in the North West.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">The low rainfall which is forecast for spring is in direct contrast to the rest of the country, which is expected to receive an above average amount of rain.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">After a record-breaking wet winter, dry weather is now on the way. Perth is currently experiencing its wettest August since 1955, when 284.5mm of rain fell. This August, 203.8mm has been recorded by 9am on August 28, meaning that it\u2019s expected we\u2019ll surpass the 1955 amount.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">2025 is the first time since 1996 that all three winter months of June, July, and August have exceeded the average amount of rainfall expected.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">As a result of the winter rains, soil moisture is currently above average for most of WA, with coastal regions very much above average.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Overall, Australia\u2019s total water storage is currently around 67 per cent. However, when it comes to water storage levels in WA the South West Coast drainage division is only at 46 per cent capacity across 76 sites.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">In the North West of WA water storage levels are currently at a significantly lower percentage.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/ec5ba1e63995f79bcb4cb963ac87f2ef2ac5bce2.jpg\" alt=\"A map showing the expected long-forecast rainfall levels for spring 2025. \" class=\"css-16r7l45-StyledImage en5ut4d0\"\/>Camera IconA map showing the expected long-forecast rainfall levels for spring 2025.  Credit: BOM<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cThe Harding Reservoir, the only major storage in the Pilbara\u2013Gascoyne drainage division, was at 22.5% of capacity at the end of July, a decrease of 0.7% from the previous month, and 6.5% lower than at the same time last year. Storage volumes across the region saw little recovery during the 2024 wet season, leaving the reservoir extremely low,\u201d a BOM spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">The bushfire outlook is that there\u2019s an increased risk of fire this season for parts of North West WA.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Department of Fire and Emergency Commissioner Darren Klemm said the recent winter downpours had created a \u201ca double edged sword\u201d for firefighters bracing for what\u2019s ahead.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/18c805bd75849629e86b75085089f14b49956b94.jpg\" alt=\"A map showing the expected long-forecast maximum temperatures for spring 2025. \" class=\"css-16r7l45-StyledImage en5ut4d0\"\/>Camera IconA map showing the expected long-forecast maximum temperatures for spring 2025.
