No 17 seed Frances Tiafoe<\/a> advanced to the third round of the US Open<\/a> by edging out qualifier Martin Damm 6-4, 7-5, 6-7 (8), 7-5 in New York on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Tiafoe, ranked No 17, will play German qualifier Jan-Lennard Struff <\/a>next at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. This is the sixth year in a row that he has made it to the third round in his home Grand Slam.<\/p>\n

The American won against Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka (6-3, 7-6 (6), 6-3) in the first round.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Earlier in the week, Damm, ranked No 431, beat wildcard Darwin Blanch (6-3, 6-4, 6-4).<\/p>\n
