If not for Perth<\/a>, viral South African painter Werner Bronkhorst would have been forced to cancel his upcoming New York City art exhibition.<\/p>\n

How?<\/p>\n

The 24-year-old resides in Sydney with his wife and two kids, but as a South African citizen, he is required to seek visa approval to enter the United States.<\/p>\n

Unable to secure a visa application appointment in any other other Australian city, Bronkhorst was forced to fly west<\/a> ahead of his September showcase.<\/p>\n

He explained the bizarre saga to his 1.6 million Instagram followers Thursday afternoon as he strolled the city streets of Perth.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are many pros and cons to being a South African citizen, and I guess one of the cons is that I have to apply for visas for pretty much every country that I go to, including the US,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cToday I am in Perth, because the only (visa application) appointment we could find was in Perth, literally on the other side of the world, or at least the other side of Australia.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo I took a five hour flight. We\u2019re here today, and tonight, we travel back to Sydney.<\/p>\n

\u201cHopefully I get my approval, because otherwise I won\u2019t be able to actually do my exhibition in New York. But let\u2019s see how it goes,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Later, Bronkhorst confirmed to fans that he had managed to secure the visa, but not before expressing his dismay at the east coast stereotypes that had been bestowed upon WA\u2019s capital.<\/p>\n

Because he simply didn\u2019t agree with them.<\/p>\n

\u201cI also don\u2019t know why there\u2019s such a vendetta against Perth, because, I mean, I am enjoying it here right now,\u201d he told followers.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s heaps of art, heaps of statues, heaps of murals. The streets are clean. There\u2019s actually a lot of people, compared to what I\u2019ve heard. Apparently, it\u2019s a ghost town \u2014 it\u2019s actually not.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s, like, cars everywhere right now, I like it. The weather is cool, it\u2019s literally pretty cool right now. But the sun is out and about. It\u2019s a beautiful day.\u201d<\/p>\n

The social media sensation specialises in acrylic gel painting on canvas, and currently has works on display in Korea.<\/p>\n
