The Glen Waverley house of late tennis ace Will Coghlan and his wife Mary is set for a $1.9m-$2.08m sale.<\/p>\n
Coghlan reached the 1967 Australian Open men\u2019s doubles semi-finals playing alongside Dave Power.<\/p>\n
He also coached players including Pat Cash, Danielle Jones and Belinda Woolcock.<\/p>\n

That\u2019ll be $18m, thanks<\/a><\/p>\n Glen Waverley: Agents\u2019 bizarre sales tactic is no bull<\/a><\/p>\n A 50-year member of the Kooyong Tennis Club, where he met Mary, Coghlan made it to Wimbledon\u2019s second round and the Aussie Open and US Open\u2019s third round in singles during his sporting career.<\/p>\n The Coghlans\u2019 daughter Katie Riddell said her father had belonged to the Last 8 Club, an international group for players who have reached a Grand Slam\u2019s quarterfinals.<\/p>\n In 1986, since the Last 8 Club tradition started at Wimbledon, similar groups have sprung up at other major tournaments to give members benefits such as court-side tickets and hospitality during tennis competitions.<\/p>\n Ms Riddell\u2019s dad\u2019s achievements were all the more impressive because he played in the era before many players became full-time professionals.<\/p>\n Coghlan worked in real estate and as a coach, often playing on weekends against the likes of the former men\u2019s world number one-ranked player John Newcombe.<\/p>\n The home is set on a 1282sq m block, including the tennis court.<\/p>\n The in-ground pool and tennis court can be seen from the rumpus room.<\/p>\n Ms Riddell said her parents built their architect-designed, four-bedroom house at 16 York St <\/a>in the 1970s.<\/p>\n Apart from large windows, their main requirement for the abode was a tennis court.<\/p>\n The residence became Ms Riddell and her younger brother\u2019s childhood home where they loved swimming in the backyard pool and celebrating special events.<\/p>\n \u201cDad had some milestone birthdays there, I still remember dad\u2019s 40th,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n \u201cThey could get a lot of people in there, it\u2019s a big party house.\u201d<\/p>\n Ms Riddell recalled her father\u2019s friend, coach Ian Barclay who took Pat Cash to Wimbledon, enjoying tennis and backyard beers at the house along with their other mates.<\/p>\n Will Coghlan coached Pat Cash, seen practising for a Hopman Cup match in 1994. Picture: Kerry Berrington.<\/p>\n There\u2019s a built-in bar in the open-plan family and dining area.<\/p>\n Set on 1282sq m, the mid-century-esque home has an open-plan formal living and dining room with French doors that open to the garden. <\/p>\n The open-plan family and dining area is fitted with a built-in bar and bookcase, while the main bedroom has a walk-in wardrobe and renovated bathroom.<\/p>\n Other features include a rumpus room, laundry, double carport with undercover storage, and an<\/p>\n outside cabana, covered patio, clothesline and paved area.<\/p>\n Ms Riddell said her father died two years ago and her mother was now downsizing.<\/p>\n And Ms Riddell, an interior decorator, helped to style the house for sale.<\/p>\n The house is close to Highvale Primary School and Highvale Secondary College, Wesley College, The Glen shopping centre, public transport and the Monash and EastLink Freeways.<\/p>\n The main bedroom\u2019s ensuite has been renovated.<\/p>\n Her aptitude for the profession emerged early in life when, as a baby, she would accompany her mother to design showrooms while the home was being built.<\/p>\n \u201cI was a bit naughty, because I must have had my interior decorating hat on from a young age,\u201d Ms Riddell said.<\/p>\n \u201cThey had this wall paper from the \u201870s in the hallway.
