C\ufeffould artificial intelligence be the future of TV journalism?<\/p>\n

It’s the smartest thing we’ve ever had to deal with \u2013 and it’s got more than a few us spooked.<\/p>\n

Right now Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is weighing up how to address AI breaching copyright laws.<\/p>\n

But the problems don’t end there.<\/p>\n

The latest AI innovation could be proof that time isn’t on our side, as A Current Affair’s artificial reporter found out.<\/p>\n

With a click of a button, you can easily create fake videos mimicking real TV journalists.\ufeff<\/p>\n

Google says it will use watermarks to help people decipher what is AI and what is real.\ufeff<\/p>\n

But telling the difference otherwise is proving to be harder and harder.\ufeff<\/p>\n

“We’re now at a stage with AI where we need to look harder at online content than ever before,” co-director at the UTS Human Technology Institute Edward Santow said.<\/p>\n

Santow said Australia’s laws need to work fast to catch up with the fast-moving AI beast.\ufeff<\/p>\n

“There are a few gaps in our laws,” he said.<\/p>\n

“They need to be filled, but the biggest challenge is to apply our laws more effectively to address the risks and threats.”<\/p>\n
