A man charged with the torture of a missing Brisbane man has been denied bail after appearing in Maroochydore Magistrates Court today.<\/p>\n
Anthony Thomas Perrett, 38, has been charged with torturing Andrew Burow, 56, a cybersecurity senior manager from Kelvin Grove.<\/p>\n
The court heard police had found photos showing the “severely beaten” Brisbane man, who has been missing for more than a week.<\/p>\n

Mr Perrett’s co-accused, 26-year-old North Lakes man Billy John Howard, is facing the same charge and remains behind bars.<\/p>\n
The men are accused of inflicting severe pain and suffering on the 56-year-old.<\/p>\n
Police have now established three crime scenes on the Sunshine Coast — at Bli Bli, Pomona and Lake MacDonald.<\/p>\n
Objecting to bail, police prosecutor Jeanette Grigoris told the court there was a homicide investigation into Mr Burow’s disappearance, which was “ongoing and dynamic”.<\/p>\n
Ms Grigoris said police had uncovered a burnt mobile phone, zip ties and alcohol wipes in a fire pit at the Bli Bli scene.<\/p>\n

The court heard officers also found the names of Mr Burow’s parents written on a piece of paper.<\/p>\n
“There is money that’s been transferred to the co-accused’s account,” the prosecutor told the court.<\/p>\n
“There is the father receiving a phone call from someone wanting money to be transferred.<\/p>\n
“There is a statement from a witness who has provided evidence that she took part in a Facetime conversation where the victim was being severely beaten with weapons and instruments.”<\/p>\n
The prosecutor said there was also phone data showing Mr Perrett and Mr Howard travelling with Mr Burow from August 20, when he went missing.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Evidence ‘extremely weak’<\/p>\n
Mr Perrett’s defence lawyer Mark Williams argued the bulk of the police evidence related to the co-accused, and said the case against his client was “weak”.<\/p>\n
“It is clear that the person at the centre of their [police] investigation is Billy Howard,” he said.<\/p>\n

“It’s difficult to establish what, if any, involvement Mr Perrett has had.<\/p>\n
“The strength of the evidence is extremely weak, bordering on non-existent.”<\/p>\n

The court also heard Mr Perrett had been on bail for other offences including extortion, drugs and firearm charges.<\/p>\n
Mr Williams said his client had been adhering to his bail conditions.<\/p>\n
Magistrate Rod Madsen said releasing Mr Perrett on bail would be an “unacceptable risk”.<\/p>\n
“I’m concerned if I gave you bail, there would be further offences committed,” the magistrate said.<\/p>\n

“Your history of offending is pretty appalling, it’s pretty persistent, and involves a number of breaches of the Bail Act.”<\/p>\n
Mr Perrett was remanded in custody and will return to court on October 13.\u00a0<\/p>\n
