A blaze burning in WA\u2019s north is threatening lives and homes.<\/p>\n
A bushfire watch and act alert was issued for people in the Shire of Wyndham-East Kimberley, just before 5.30pm on Saturday.<\/p>\n
People in camping grounds on the eastern side of Durack River in parts of Durack and people on the Gibb River Road are also being urged to be vigilant a the fire is moving fast in a westerly direction towards Durack River.<\/p>\n
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.<\/p>\n
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services have suggested people leave, if it is safe to do so, by heading towards Ellenbrae Station.<\/p>\n
\u201cTake your emergency kit with you. It should include an AM\/FM radio that runs off batteries, a first aid kit, a woollen blanket, phones, protective clothing, medication and irreplaceable valuables,\u201d the alert read.<\/p>\n
\u201cDecide where you will go and how you will get there. This could be with family or friends away from the fire.\u201d<\/p>\n
For those who cannot leave their homes safely DFES suggest keeping your doors and windows closed to keep out smoke.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf you plan to stay and defend ensure you are mentally and physically prepared, with protective clothing and an independent water supply,\u201d the alert read.<\/p>\n
\u201cMake final preparations now and start patrolling your property to put out spot fires.<\/p>\n
\u201cTurn off evaporative air conditioners, but keep water running through the system if possible to prevent embers entering your home.<\/p>\n
