Priscilla Hon was knocked out of the US Open<\/a> on Saturday morning but the Brisbane born right-hander says she’s still grateful for her recent rise.<\/p>\n

The Australian qualifier had her chances against American Ann Li, especially in the second set, however, she went down 7-5, 6-3.<\/p>\n

It was the first time Hon had reached the last 32 of a grand slam after navigating her way through three qualifying matches just to make the main draw in New York.<\/p>\n

As a result, she achieved a career-best ranking of No. 106 along with a $237,000 USD ($363,000 AUD) pay day.<\/p>\n

Yet it could’ve gone the other way for Hon, who revealed post-match she had been playing with bone bruise in her foot for the past five weeks.<\/p>\n

The first set was locked up at 5-all before Li broke the Australian to take the first frame.<\/p>\n

In the second, scores were locked at 2-2 and Hon had several break point opportunities when it was at deuce, with the game rocking back and forth for 12 minutes.<\/p>\n

Yet Li managed to pull herself out of it and then broke and held again to get to 5-2. It was all but done at that point.<\/p>\n

“I overcame some mental hurdles, I’m hoping I can do better next year,” Hon said after the match.<\/p>\n

“I’m very lucky that I’m playing, and playing the sport I love for a living. I’m a little bit down about my loss but I’m just grateful to be in this position.<\/p>\n

“The positives are massive and I’ll just ride on that for now.”<\/p>\n

Hon’s loss now leaves 15th seed Daria Kasatkina as the last Australian in the women’s singles draw.<\/p>\n

Kasatkina plays former world number one Naomi Osaka on Sunday AEST for a place in the last 16.<\/p>\n
