Tim Parsons owns Curringa Farm, a sheep farm in central Tasmania which offers farm tours and on-site accommodation.<\/p>\n
Bookings have remained steady during the winter, he said.<\/p>\n
“It’s so much easier to back up to a fire and have a hot drink or a glass of whiskey and get warm and rug up with a coat and have good conversation.<\/p>\n
“The pace is slower, the expectation of a bit of snow, the appetite to catch an aurora is a driver.”<\/p>\n

Ms Kingston Clark said there had been an increase in visitors wanting to “meet the maker” and experience agricultural life first-hand.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“Fifty per cent of people who come to Tasmania will actually engage with an agritourism experience while they’re here, so we are definitely becoming more well known for those sorts of experiences,” she said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
International markets bounce back\u00a0<\/p>\n
Mr Parsons said 80 per cent of Curringa Farm visitors were from overseas, primarily Singapore and Hong Kong.<\/p>\n

Tourism Tasmania noted an increase from international markets over the winter, too.<\/p>\n
“The US, the UK and Singapore have been performing really well for us in Tasmania and we’re also seeing emerging markets, like India,” Ms Kingston Clark said.<\/p>\n
“People are really interested in those four seasons; they don’t just want to follow the sun.”<\/p>\n
Mr Parsons said a successful winter season indicated a good summer to come.<\/p>\n
“Our business through winter has been really encouraging.<\/p>\n
