McLaren\u2019s Pato O\u2019Ward took pole position for the season-ending 225-lap race, setting a two-lap average of 202.621 mph at the concrete speedway.<\/p>\n

David Malukas was second for AJ Foyt Racing (201.922 mph) while O\u2019Ward\u2019s teammate Christian Lundgaard was third (201.713 mph).<\/p>\n

Champion-elect Alex Palou will start fourth ahead of Chip Ganassi Racing teammate Dixon in fifth.<\/p>\n

Josef Newgarden, who goes into the final race of the season still without a win, was the best of the Team Penske trio in sixth.<\/p>\n

Nolan Siegel was seventh for McLaren but took a nine-place grid penalty for an unscheduled engine change.<\/p>\n

That promoted Team Penske\u2019s McLaughlin ahead of Kyffin Simpson (Chip Ganassi Racing), Felix Rosenqvist (Meyer Shank Racing), and Power (Team Penske).<\/p>\n

Callum Ilott was poised to start ninth, but he too took a nine-place grid penalty for an engine change.<\/p>\n

IndyCar\u2019s most recent race winner, Christian Rasmussen, also took a nine-place grid penalty for an engine change, which dropped him out of his 16th place qualifying result.<\/p>\n

Pole winner O\u2019Ward has never won a race from top spot, a streak he is eager to end.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe car was great,\u201d O\u2019Ward said.<\/p>\n

\u201cFelt really comfortable in practice and didn\u2019t give me any scares or anything. I was happy with that. Very good.\u201d<\/p>\n

Monday\u2019s race gets underway at 4am AEST with coverage live and exclusively on Stan Sport.<\/p>\n
