Max Verstappen has avoided a penalty for the Dutch Grand Prix after the stewards accepted his “rationale” behind an infringement that led to him facing a post-qualifying investigation.<\/p>\n
The four-time F1 champion was cited for “driving unnecessarily slowly” at the end of a qualifying session in which he had secured third on the Zandvoort grid behind an all-McLaren front row, spearheaded by Oscar Piastri, who finished just 0.012s ahead of team-mate Lando Norris.<\/p>\n
Verstappen’s superb performance in his Red Bull threatened to be undermined by the fact he was cited by the stewards for failing to comply with the sporting regulations at the time, and being in contravention of race director Rui Marques’ event notes.<\/p>\n
After hearing from Verstappen,\u00a0a team\u00a0representative, and after reviewing the position\/marshalling data, video, timing, telemetry and in-car video\u00a0evidence, the stewards have decided to take no further action.<\/p>\n
A stewards statement read: “Car\u00a01\u00a0exceeded\u00a0the\u00a0maximum\u00a0time\u00a0specified\u00a0in\u00a0the\u00a0race\u00a0director\u2019s\u00a0notes\u00a0by\u00a03.8 seconds, without slowing\u00a0down\u00a0to\u00a0let\u00a0any\u00a0cars\u00a0pass.\u00a0This\u00a0time\u00a0was\u00a0exceeded\u00a0in\u00a0the\u00a0inlap\u00a0after\u00a0car\u00a01\u00a0took\u00a0the\u00a0chequered\u00a0flag.<\/p>\n
“The\u00a0driver\u00a0of\u00a0car\u00a01\u00a0showed\u00a0us\u00a0telemetry\u00a0that\u00a0proved\u00a0that\u00a0he\u00a0would\u00a0have\u00a0been\u00a0within the delta time but for the yellow flag being shown towards\u00a0the\u00a0end\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0lap. He\u00a0had to\u00a0slow\u00a0significantly\u00a0to\u00a0comply\u00a0with\u00a0the\u00a0yellow\u00a0flag\u00a0rules.<\/p>\n
“This\u00a0is\u00a0what\u00a0led\u00a0to\u00a0his\u00a0delta time\u00a0reflecting\u00a0an\u00a0infringement\u00a0in\u00a0the\u00a0system.<\/p>\n
