{"id":10956,"date":"2025-07-21T13:29:09","date_gmt":"2025-07-21T13:29:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/10956\/"},"modified":"2025-07-21T13:29:09","modified_gmt":"2025-07-21T13:29:09","slug":"kisti-secures-funding-for-national-quantum-center-of-excellence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/10956\/","title":{"rendered":"KISTI secures funding for National Quantum Center of Excellence"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI) has secured a multi-million dollar government award through the \u201cQuantum Computing Service and Utilization System Construction Project.\u201d This initiative marks a major step toward establishing South Korea\u2019s first National Quantum Computing Center of Excellence.<\/p>\n<p>KISTI, which will lead the development and operation of a quantum computing service and research platform designed to support both academic and enterprise applications, has identified IonQ\u00a0\u2014 a US-based commercial quantum computing and networking company\u00a0\u2014 \u00a0as the primary quantum technology provider for the project, alongside South Korean cloud service and infrastructure provider Megazone Cloud, according to a media release.<\/p>\n<p>Under an expected contract to be concluded with KISTI, IonQ expects to deliver an advanced 100-qubit quantum system for the initiative, to enable leading edge research and industrially relevant quantum computing capabilities. Together, IonQ and KISTI intend to develop a hybrid quantum-classical execution environment, integrating next-generation quantum systems into a private cloud for remote access, IonQ said in the media release.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs part of the project, KISTI will host Tempo, IonQ\u2019s next-generation trapped-ion quantum computer with 100 qubits,\u201d KISTI said in a post on LinkedIn. \u201cBuilt on barium ions, Tempo offers high fidelity, long coherence times, and all-to-all qubit connectivity \u2014 enabling broader real-world applications.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will be honored to support KISTI\u2019s pioneering efforts to establish a world-leading quantum service infrastructure in Korea,\u201d said Niccolo de Masi, CEO of IonQ. \u201cThis project is a significant investment in Korea\u2019s research and innovation ecosystem, and we are proud to have been identified by KISTI to provide the technology and expertise to help realize its full potential.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThanks to the partnership with IonQ, we expect to accumulate experience in the operation, service, and utilization of quantum platforms nationwide,\u201d said Dr. Sik Lee, KISTI President. \u201cWe will also strive to contribute to the development of quantum computer utilization research and the industrial ecosystem in Korea.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This announcement builds on IonQ and KISTI\u2019s ongoing collaboration, including a recently signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) to jointly advance South Korea\u2019s leadership in the global quantum economy, the media release said. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Explore the latest trends and developments in the electronics industry, and join us at the upcoming <a href=\"https:\/\/evertiq.com\/expo\" class=\"bblc\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Evertiq Expo events.<\/a> The next edition is scheduled for on September 4, 2025, in <a href=\"https:\/\/evertiq.com\/expo\/got2025_about\" class=\"bblc\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Gothenburg<\/a>.
