It makes Curnow one of the biggest names to watch in the lead into next month\u2019s trade period, with Sydney and Geelong seen as the most likely landing spots if a move can be facilitated.<\/p>\n
7 News Melbourne reporter Mitch Cleary wrote on X on Monday night that Curnow had \u201cmet with Sydney coach Dean Cox about a potential trade\u201d prior to flying out to the the USA for holidays.<\/p>\n
Veteran journalist Caroline Wilson then detailed on Channel 7 how determined Curnow was to get out of the Blues, suggesting his and Voss\u2019 relationship was \u201cnot great\u201d. <\/p>\n
\u201cMy understanding is Charlie Curnow is so keen to get out of Carlton \u2013 he wants a four-year deal continued, like the deal he has at Carlton \u2013 that he is happy to play for less money,\u201d Wilson told Channel 7.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s wrong to say he\u2019s \u2018fallen out\u2019 with the club. He just doesn\u2019t get on with the coach, he doesn\u2019t want to play for Michael Voss anymore and he will play for less money to do so.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s fascinating that it\u2019s come to this.\u201d<\/p>\n
Voss earlier on Monday played down Curnow\u2019s trade request, saying (being) \u201copen\u201d to a move was \u201cmore the language used\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd obviously from our position it was pretty clear. So we don\u2019t feel like we\u2019re in that position to go down that path. That position was well and truly communicated back to him,\u201d Voss said on SEN radio.<\/p>\n
\u201cFrom that point on we moved on to other topics and talked about his year and how we can get him better and get him back to that striking form he had only 12 months ago.\u201d<\/p>\n
Asked if the Blues would answer the phone to listen to Curnow offers, Voss responded: \u201cNo.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur position is pretty clear. It\u2019s been stated \u2014 I don\u2019t even know publicly whether we\u2019ve said anything \u2014 but he\u2019ll be at Carlton in 2026.<\/p>\n
\u201cThose discussions \u2014 if there are any others \u2014 will continue behind closed doors.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s a two-time Coleman medallist, it could have been three, who has four years to run on a contract. We feel like he\u2019s an incredibly important person to us.<\/p>\n

Voss wasn\u2019t willing to disclose the reasons behind Curnow\u2019s concerns. But the Blues coach noted it\u2019d been a \u201cchallenging year\u201d for the 28-year old as part of the wider club\u2019s struggles as Carlton fell well short of finals. <\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t think it\u2019s worthy of going into detail outside of that we\u2019ve had a tough year, he\u2019s had a challenging year,\u201d Voss said.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s obviously had three surgeries over the course of this year.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s just been a tough year and we\u2019ve all felt that and I imagine our players have felt that as well. We\u2019re all pretty determined to change that.\u201d<\/p>\n
Asked if Curnow had the currency to demand a \u201csuper trade\u201d for him, Fox Footy\u2019s Garry Lyon told AFL 360: \u201cYes, because they\u2019ve got the bargaining power, they\u2019ve got the contract.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t know the context with what\u2019s happened with Charlie \u2026 but they\u2019ve got to know. This is the world we live in. You put your name to the long-termer, you\u2019ve got to cop that. You might say \u2018I\u2019m open to it\u2019, but if it comes back and it hasn\u2019t happened, every expectation in the football world \u2013 from the Carlton CEO to supporter No. 87,000 expects him to be at training day one, pre-season, working his arse off as hard as he ever has. Lyon added: \u201cNot for one second do I think that\u2019s dead in the water.\u201d<\/p>\n
Voss confirmed the club had asked Elijah Hollands to explore his trade options with a year to run on his contract after being \u201cdisappointed\u201d with his off-field concerns. <\/p>\n
That included Hollands, 23, being limited to five senior games due to personal leave.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat discussion was: \u2018It\u2019s up to you to look around and find out if another place suits you\u2019,\u201d the Carlton boss continued.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s clear on where we stand with that, so it\u2019s up to him to go explore those options and what they look like.<\/p>\n
\u201cAbsolutely, we have been a little bit disappointed with how it has transpired across the year.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s been quite an important player to us and over the course of the previous year he had a real influence on the way we played. But the year hasn\u2019t gone the way we wanted with \u2018Lij\u2019 and the conversation was: \u2018If there is another place which will get the best out of you, mate, this is the time to go look for that\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Voss held no ill feelings towards departing free agents Tom De Koning, who\u2019s headed to St Kilda on a long-term deal worth around $1.7 million per season, and Jack Silvagni. <\/p>\n
\u201cOf course whenever players come to you and say they want to leave, it\u2019s a tough one to accept. But at the same time, you\u2019ve got to take the factors into consideration,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
\u201c(De Koning and Silvagni) are free agents, so they\u2019re there to be able to explore their options. <\/p>\n
\u201cLet\u2019s wait and see and what the total offer is for Tom, but I reckon that\u2019s a pretty compelling offer! It\u2019s hard not to look at. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe don\u2019t begrudge the young man being able to take the opportunity, it\u2019s a rare one you get and obviously he\u2019s chosen to take it.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe don\u2019t just look at it as two players, it\u2019s the density of people we have. It\u2019s the environment \u2014 whether that\u2019s staff or the playing group \u2014 we take our feedback from as well.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe feedback we get is, while we\u2019re not perfect and know we need to improve and clearly we\u2019re not where we need to be, in terms of our environment and getting the best out of people, we feel like we\u2019ve got the environment to be able to do that. <\/p>\n
