For a long time, Tom Aspinall\u2019s fighting future was on hold<\/a> as the interim heavyweight champ waited for the UFC and Jon Jones to negotiate a title unification bout. That didn\u2019t come together,<\/a> and now Jones is out as champ. Aspinall is in, and he\u2019s defending his title at UFC 321.<\/a><\/p>\n

What\u2019s next? Tom\u2019s father \/ coach \/ manager Andy Aspinall shared his plans in a new video uploaded to the heavyweight champ\u2019s YouTube channel.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019ll have a fight now and hopefully he\u2019ll have a fight January,\u201d Andy said. \u201cAnd hopefully he\u2019ll have a fight, I\u2019d like him to headline a card in England if he wants to do that again. And then just see what he wants to do from that.\u201d<\/p>\n

There aren\u2019t a ton of big money options in the heavyweight division these days, so after that blast of activity Andy is hoping Aspinall will get the opportunity for a big money boxing crossover fight.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019d love him to have a very highly paid boxing match, for the money,\u201d Aspinall Sr. said. \u201cYou know, the money\u2019s there, and I don\u2019t see why somebody as talented as Tom shouldn\u2019t have a piece of that money when the boxers are getting 100 times more \u2026 more than a 100 times more.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe UFC ain\u2019t paying that type of money,\u201d he continued. \u201cIf they would, it would be great and he could get the money. But I think these one percent of people who are very, very good should get paid.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou know, Tom\u2019s money, some people say it\u2019s good. Compared to a football, soccer player? An American footballer who we\u2019ve talked to, over in America, [Tom\u2019s] earning a tiny fraction of what they\u2019re earning, and he\u2019s one of the best in the world at doing what he does, and not getting paid enough, and it\u2019s very dangerous.\u201d<\/p>\n

Andy has said his primary goal is to see his son out of the sport with his health intact.<\/a> Get the money, get the glory, and get out.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen he\u2019s got enough to get out of it, I\u2019d say get out of it,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd if I see that he\u2019s not doing good enough \u2026 I don\u2019t know. I can\u2019t make him get out of it, and I can\u2019t beg him to get out of it. But I\u2019d have to say, \u2018Look, I can\u2019t see this happening to you.’\u201d<\/p>\n

For now there\u2019s no sign that Tom Aspinall\u2019s skills are deteriorating, so we\u2019ve got some time left to enjoy watching him work. If Andy has his way, though, that time may be shorter than we\u2019d like.
