Taiwan\u2019s Lin Yu-ting and Algeria\u2019s Imane Khelif both set to miss boxing\u2019s world championships amid ongoing gender row.<\/p>\n

Taiwanese Olympic boxing gold medallist Lin Yu-ting will not compete at the world championships starting this week, despite reportedly submitting her gender test results.<\/p>\n

Lin and Algerian boxer Imane Khelif were at the centre of a major gender dispute at the 2024 Paris Olympics<\/a>, where they won titles in separate weight classes.<\/p>\n

World Boxing said last month that women wanting to compete at the championships in Liverpool on September 4-14 would have to undergo mandatory gender testing under its new policy.<\/p>\n

The 29-year-old Lin had agreed to undergo the testing, her coach Tseng Tzu-chiang said at the time.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe has not considered withdrawing from the competition because of the new gender tests. We will submit all the relevant documents requested by the organisers, as part of normal procedures,\u201d Tseng said.<\/p>\n

Taiwan\u2019s boxing association said it submitted the results to World Boxing and had not received a response, the semi-official Central News Agency reported late Monday.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe cannot allow the athlete to travel to the UK without any guarantee,\u201d the association was quoted as saying.<\/p>\n

The association told the news agency AFP in a message on Tuesday that Lin \u201cwill not attend the world championships in Liverpool\u201d, but did not give a reason or respond to AFP\u2019s other questions.<\/p>\n

Lin\u2019s coach Tseng did not respond to phone calls or messages.<\/p>\n

AFP has contacted World Boxing for comment.<\/p>\n

Under its policy, fighters more than 18 years old who want to participate in a World Boxing-sanctioned competition need to take a PCR, or polymerase chain reaction genetic test.<\/p>\n

Lin and Khelif were excluded from the International Boxing Association\u2019s (IBA) 2023 world championships after the IBA said they had failed eligibility tests.<\/p>\n

However, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) allowed them both to compete in Paris, saying they had been victims of \u201ca sudden and arbitrary decision by the IBA\u201d. Both went on to triumph.<\/p>\n

Khelif has turned to sport\u2019s top court, CAS, to challenge World Boxing\u2019s gender testing.<\/p>\n

At present, neither boxer is set to compete in Liverpool.<\/p>\n

Khelif and Lin were subjected to attacks on social media, rumours about their biological sex and disinformation during the Paris Games.<\/p>\n

The IOC leapt to their defence, saying they were born and raised as women, and have passports attesting to that.<\/p>\n
