A 92-year-old golfer is the talk of his town after hitting his first hole-in-one from more than 100 metres away at Casino Golf Course.<\/p>\n
Boydie Collyer hit the ball a whopping 117 metres.<\/p>\n
“It just felt good, when I hit it, it just felt good,” he said.<\/p>\n
Local legend was created when Mr Collyer approached the 17th hole on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
“I said to one of the blokes, ‘Oh you got on the green, I’m going to get closer than you,'” he said.<\/p>\n
Mr Collyer approached the ball then whacked it.<\/p>\n
He and his golfing buddies watched it hit the green then disappear.<\/p>\n
“I didn’t even know it went in the hole, I thought it went off the green,” he said.<\/p>\n
“But then they said, ‘No, it’s in the hole.'”<\/p>\n

Mr Collyer could not contain his disbelief at his ace.<\/p>\n
“I did say ‘bullshit’,” Mr Collyer said.<\/p>\n
He was still shaking his head as he approached the green.<\/p>\n
“When I got up to the green I said, ‘Do I need me putter?” he said.<\/p>\n
“They said, ‘Only if you want to get the ball out of the hole.'”<\/p>\n
Ace makes legend board<\/p>\n
Word travels fast on a country golf course.<\/p>\n
“I think everyone on the course knew before we got back to the club,” Mr Collyer said.<\/p>\n
“Everyone is thrilled, to have your first hole-in-one at 92, it’s got a bit of atmosphere about it,” Casino Golf Club pro Matt Adam said.<\/p>\n
“He probably took it in his stride, but I looked on the internet and [an average amateur] is a 12,500-to-1 chance of hitting a hole-in-one, but when you’re 92, you’re not going to hit as far as normal people.”\u00a0<\/p>\n
Mr Adam said there were not many veteran players as keen as “young Boydie Collyer”.<\/p>\n
“He gets in early, he’s one of the first guys here, he comes up from Coraki, driving his car at 92,” he said.<\/p>\n
“His name will go up on the board as a hole-in-one.”<\/p>\n

A day like any other<\/p>\n
Mr Collyer has been playing for eight years and last week celebrated his 92nd birthday.<\/p>\n
He said he could not put his finger on what he did differently.<\/p>\n
“I had me weetbix, it was the same as every other day, just getting out to enjoy myself,” he said.<\/p>\n
When it came to technique, he said he was a bit hit-and-miss.<\/p>\n
“Mostly I close me eyes and then hit it,” Mr Collyer said.<\/p>\n
But his advice to other players was to keep their eyes open.<\/p>\n
He said his eyes were open when he hit the hole-in-one.<\/p>\n
He encouraged aspiring older golfers to have a go.<\/p>\n
“Get out there and do it because it takes your mind off everything else,” he said.<\/p>\n
