A New South Wales man has pleaded guilty to possessing bestiality videos, illegal gel blasters and more than 34,000 child abuse images.<\/p>\n
Jarrod Scifleet’s house in suburban Newcastle was raided by police in October 2024, when the prohibited material was seized.<\/p>\n
A softly spoken Scifleet, 24, \u00a0pleaded guilty to four offences in Newcastle Local Court today.<\/p>\n
He was charged with possessing child abuse material, possessing bestiality material and possessing more than three unregistered firearms, including pistols.<\/p>\n
Scifleet also admitted to possessing throwing stars and a trench knife.<\/p>\n

Agreed police facts were tendered in Newcastle Local Court today to coincide with Scifleet’s guilty pleas.<\/p>\n
The documents said the 24-year-old’s arrest came after Australian Federal Police (AFP) contacted Newcastle detectives, prompting a two-year investigation.<\/p>\n
“In 2023 the detective was given information that indicated child abuse material was uploaded from an IP address linked to (a Newcastle address),” the documents read.<\/p>\n
Newcastle detectives applied for a search warrant on October 23, 2024.<\/p>\n
The police facts stated officers searched the home the next day.<\/p>\n
Phone and iPad searched<\/p>\n
“The detectives asked the offender if there was anything on his iPad that he would worry about, which he said there was,” the document read.<\/p>\n
“The offender was formally cautioned and asked what was on his iPad.<\/p>\n
“The offender replied, ‘The stuff you’re searching for,’ and then asked if he could speak to her [the officer] at the police station in the absence of his family.”<\/p>\n
Police searched Scifleet’s phone and tablet as part of their investigation.<\/p>\n
According to the police facts, “a total of 33,713 images and 1,672 videos were found on the offender’s iPad.”<\/p>\n
The document said 50 of the videos on the iPad were category-one child abuse material, the worst category for such content.<\/p>\n
Six videos of bestiality material were also found on the iPad.<\/p>\n

On Scifleet’s phone, police found 189 category-one child abuse images and 32 videos in the same category.<\/p>\n
The police facts said a further 152 images and five videos on the phone fell into the second category for child abuse material.<\/p>\n
A total of seven videos on the phone contained bestiality material.<\/p>\n
Abuse material accessed via Reddit<\/p>\n
Scifleet was taken to Newcastle Police Station and agreed to an electronically recorded police interview.<\/p>\n
“The offender told police he would regularly download child abuse material from the internet through online chats, including Reddit,” the facts said.<\/p>\n
“He told police he started collecting child abuse material when he was 12 years old.”<\/p>\n
Reddit is for users aged 13 years and older, and its terms of use are outlined as follows:<\/p>\n
Do not share or encourage the sharing of sexual, abusive, or suggestive content involving minors.<\/p>\n
Any predatory or inappropriate behaviour involving a minor is also strictly prohibited.<\/p>\n
Gel blasters illegal in NSW<\/p>\n
According to the police facts, Scifleet also admitted to possessing four gel-blaster firearms.<\/p>\n
Gel blasters are life-like toy guns that shoot a gel pellet.<\/p>\n
“He said he had purchased them in Queensland and has become aware it was illegal to possess gel blasters in New South Wales,” the facts stated.<\/p>\n
Three of the weapons were made in China.<\/p>\n
NSW Police said in NSW, gel blasters were classified as air guns, which were defined as firearms.<\/p>\n
“The gel ball has been similarly classified as ammunition,” police said.<\/p>\n
Scifleet’s case has been adjourned until October 2, when a sentencing date will be set in Newcastle District Court.<\/p>\n
