Gordon Ramsay<\/a> is opening up about a major health diagnosis, a type of skin cancer<\/a> called basal cell carcinoma, alongside a bold PSA on social media.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, Aug. 30, the Hell’s Kitchen<\/a> star, 58, took to Instagram<\/a> with a photo of his bandaged face and his medical update.<\/p>\n

“Grateful and so appreciative for the incredible team at The Skin Associates and their fast reactive work on removing this Basal Cell Carcinoma thank you!” Ramsay captioned his post.<\/p>\n

He then issued an important reminder for his fans, writing, “Please don\u2019t forget your sunscreen this weekend \u2764\ufe0fI promise you it\u2019s not a face lift! I\u2019d need a refund\u2026\u2026.\ud83d\ude1c.”<\/p>\n

For the featured image, Ramsay turned sideways to reveal a bandage spanning from his left cheek to behind his left ear.<\/p>\n

In the comments, the celebrity chef’s followers showered him with words of support.<\/p>\n

One Instagram user wrote, “Glad to hear you’re doing well, Gordon, and thanks for raising awareness of how important it is to stay safe in the sun \u2764\ufe0f Seek shade, cover up, and apply sunscreen regularly and generously \u2600\ufe0f.”<\/p>\n

Another shared, “So glad you\u2019re sorted! Speedy recovery Chef \ud83d\ude4c \u2764\ufe0f.”<\/p>\n

Someone else echoed, “Well done you for getting a skin check ! Something we should all be lining up for \ud83d\udc4f\ud83d\udc4f\ud83d\udc4f\ud83d\udc4f.”<\/p>\n

A different Instagram user wrote, “Glad it was caught early, speedy recovery to you \ud83e\udef6\u2728,” as a second requested, “Hi Gordon, please can you also post a before photo to promote awareness of skin cancer? Did you have any symptoms?”<\/p>\n

Yet another follower added to Ramsay’s PSA, writing, “So important to share things like this, slap on a hat, suncream[sic] and seek shade, happy healing, well done to the amazing people who work in healthcare who do amazing work like this \u2764\ufe0f\ud83d\ude4c.”<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, someone else commented, “Both of my parents had surgery for skin cancer, my Dad lost his left ear. Please be careful out in the sun. \u2764\ufe0f.”<\/p>\n

What Is Basal Cell Carcinoma?<\/p>\n

Basal cell carcinoma is both the most common type of skin cancer and the most common type of cancer overall, according to the Cleveland Clinic<\/a>. More than 4 million cases are seen each year in the U.S.<\/p>\n

Signs of basal cell carcinoma include:<\/p>\n

Lumps, bumps, scabs, or scaly lesions on the skin<\/p>\n

A lump that is slightly translucent and similar to the normal skin color, or white to pink, brown to black, or black to blue.<\/p>\n

A lump that is shinier than the skin around it, with visible blood vessels<\/p>\n

A lump that grows slowly over time<\/p>\n

A lump that forms an ulcer, which may bleed with contact or ooze clear fluid.<\/p>\n
