The publisher of a posthumous memoir by a woman who alleged she was trafficked for sex to Prince Andrew by Jeffrey Epstein says it has agreed to make changes to the book, after her family raised questions about its release.<\/p>\n

Surviving relatives of Virginia Giuffre were worried that Nobody’s Girl presented an outdated and unduly positive portrait of her marriage, which collapsed in the months leading to her death in April.<\/p>\n

In a statement, her family confirmed she took her own life at her property in Neergabby in the shire of Gingin, about 80 kilometres north of Perth.<\/p>\n

US publishing house Alfred A. Knopf’s (Knopf) publisher and editor-in-chief, Jordan Pavlin, said the company “worked with Virginia’s brothers and their wives to contextualise the narrative.”<\/p>\n

“We appreciate their support of this publication,” he said in a statement to The Associated Press on Wednesday, local time.<\/p>\n

“We all believe that Virginia’s voice must be heard, and that her courage in telling her story has the power to offer strength and hope to victims of sexual abuse.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“Nobody’s Girl is a testament to Virginia’s dignity and fortitude in the face of Jeffrey Epstein’s and Ghislaine Maxwell’s monstrous cruelty. Its impact will be profound.”<\/p>\n

In an interview that aired on Wednesday night, Ms Giuffre’s sister-in-law, Amanda Roberts, confirmed to MSNBC’s Jen Psaki that the two sides had resolved their differences.<\/p>\n

Last month, Knopf announced that Nobody’s Girl would come out October 21<\/a> and called it a “riveting and powerful story of an ordinary girl who would grow up to confront extraordinary adversity.”\u00a0<\/p>\n

Family members soon issued a statement saying that Nobody’s Girl, which reportedly presents her marriage to Robert Giuffre as part of her healing process, “will undermine Virginia’s credibility as someone who consistently told the truth in her pursuit of justice and accountability.”<\/p>\n

The final edition, which Knopf has sent to the printers, includes a foreword that outlines the changes in Ms Giuffre’s life since the manuscript’s completion in the fall of 2024.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The publishing house and Ms Giuffre’s family spent months working on the language for the foreword, written by Ms Giuffre’s collaborator, author and journalist Amy Wallace.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Knopf declined to comment further on the foreword’s contents.<\/p>\n

Ms Giuffre originally signed in 2023 with Penguin Press, in what Knopf\u00a0spokesperson Todd Doughty said recently was a seven-figure deal.\u00a0<\/p>\n

She moved from Penguin to Knopf along with her acquiring editor, Emily Cunningham, who joined Knopf last year. Both Knopf and Penguin are part of Penguin Random House.<\/p>\n

Jeffrey Epstein’s survivors rally<\/p>\n

More than 33,000 pages of files on Epstein were released<\/a> by a United States House of Representatives committee on Tuesday, local time.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday, some of Ms Giuffre’s family members joined dozens of survivors of Epstein’s abuse at a news conference on Capitol Hill in Washington.<\/p>\n

The group called on lawyers to release the remaining files from the sex trafficking investigation into the late financier, and rejected US President Donald Trump’s effort to dismiss the issue as a “hoax.”<\/p>\n

“No leniency, no deals, no special treatment,” Sky Roberts, Ms Giuffre’s brother, said at the news conference.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“The Epstein documents must be unsealed.”<\/p>\n

Mr Doughty has confirmed Nobody’s Girl mentions Mr Trump, who once employed Giuffre at his private Mar-a-Lago club in Florida, but added that he is not accused of any wrongdoing.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The publisher has otherwise declined to offer specifics on anyone else named.<\/p>\n

Sexual assault\u00a0support lines:<\/p>\n

Ms Giuffre had contended she was caught up in Epstein’s sex-trafficking ring in the 2000s and was exploited by Britain’s Prince Andrew and other influential men.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Epstein was found dead in a New York City jail cell in 2019 in what investigators described as a suicide.\u00a0<\/p>\n

His former girlfriend, Ghislaine Maxwell, was convicted in late 2021 of sex trafficking and other charges.<\/p>\n
