It is part of Respiratory Care WA\u2019s \u201cDo Blue. Do You\u201d campaign for National Asthma Week from September 1 to 7.<\/p>\n
As part of the campaign, food vendor Soak or Simmer will be turning one of its products blue at the Subiaco Farmers Markets at Subiaco Primary School on Saturday, September 6, from 8am to noon and at the Stirling Markets on Sunday, September 7, from 11.30am.<\/p>\n
Soak or Simmer is known for its porridge and will feature a special \u201cDo Blue Blueberry Porridge\u201d, alongside other local favourites including apple crumble with custard, strawberries and cream, and poached pear with chai syrup.<\/p>\n
One dollar from every serve sold on the day will be donated to Respiratory Care WA.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhile asthma hasn\u2019t directly touched my family, I know how many people in our community live with respiratory conditions every day and this felt like a simple way to give back,\u201d Soak or Simmer owner and founder Carole Sinclair, of Greenwood, said.<\/p>\n

\u201cBy turning something comforting and familiar into a fundraiser, I hope to not only raise funds but also spark awareness and connection around a cause that truly makes a difference.\u201d<\/p>\n
Respiratory Care WA acting CEO Rael Rivers said the Do Blue. Do You campaign aimed to start conversations about asthma, its impact and the importance of correct diagnosis to help prevent hospital visits and save lives.<\/p>\n
\u201cAsthma is one of the leading causes of disease burden in children aged five to 14, yet many families still miss the early signs or don\u2019t have the right treatment plan,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn 2022\u201323, about 97,000 Australians presented to an emergency department with asthma, and children made up nearly half of all hospitalisations.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur goal is to reduce these numbers while helping the community understand just how serious asthma can be.\u201d<\/p>\n
The funds will go to supporting Respiratory Care WA\u2019s free services, such as lung function testing, education, and ongoing support for people living with respiratory conditions.<\/p>\n
