{"id":118900,"date":"2025-09-04T18:52:08","date_gmt":"2025-09-04T18:52:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/118900\/"},"modified":"2025-09-04T18:52:08","modified_gmt":"2025-09-04T18:52:08","slug":"lava-unveils-masterplan-for-expo-2030-riyadh-in-saudi-arabia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/118900\/","title":{"rendered":"LAVA unveils masterplan for Expo 2030 Riyadh in Saudi Arabia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"852\" height=\"479\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/expo-2030-riyadh-masterplan-lava_dezeen_2364_col_1-852x479.jpg\" class=\"attachment-article_large_image size-article_large_image nolazy\" alt=\"Expo 2030 Riyadh\" decoding=\"async\"  data-pin-nopin=\"true\"\/>\t\t    <\/p>\n<p>German architecture studio <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/lava\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">LAVA<\/a> has unveiled the masterplan for the 2030 World Expo on a site near King Salman International Airport to the north of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/riyadh\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Riyadh<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The studio designed the masterplan for the event in the Saudi Arabian capital city, which will be the latest World Expo following <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/osaka-expo-2025\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Expo 2025 Osaka<\/a>, which is currently taking place in Japan.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2243682 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/expo-2030-riyadh-masterplan-lava_dezeen_2364_col_3-2-852x479.jpg\" alt=\"Expo 2030 masterplan\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1330\"  \/>LAVA has designed the masterplan for the 2030 World Expo<\/p>\n<p>Renders released by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.l-a-v-a.net\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">LAVA<\/a> show a district with organic-shaped, rock-like buildings informed by the country&#8217;s rivers and wadis.<\/p>\n<p>Arranged around a central river, the masterplan is arranged into five petal-like groupings that are connected by bridges.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2025\/05\/01\/most-architecturally-significant-expo-buildings\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"191\" height=\"191\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/world-expo-roundup-sq_dezeen_2364_col_0-191x191.jpg\" class=\"excludeLightbox wp-post-image\" alt=\"all-time most architectural significant Expo buildings\" decoding=\"async\" data-pin-nopin=\"true\"  \/><\/p>\n<p> The 12 most architecturally significant Expo buildings of all time\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We have anchored the design firmly in nature,&#8221; said LAVA co-founder Chris Bosse.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The master plan exemplifies how nature and technology, environmental restoration and urban innovation can effectively coexist.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2243681 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/expo-2030-riyadh-masterplan-lava_dezeen_2364_col_2-2-852x511.jpg\" alt=\"Expo 2030 in Riyadh\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1418\"  \/>The Expo will take place to the north of Riyadh<\/p>\n<p>According to the studio, the masterplan is designed as a space to host the global event, but also intended to become a future retail and leisure district in Riyadh.<\/p>\n<p>It will be built on a site enclosed by major roads near the airport and alongside the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2017\/10\/26\/zaha-hadid-architects-king-abdullah-petroleum-studies-research-centre-riyadh-saudi-arabia\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Zaha Hadid Architects-designed King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Centre<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2024\/08\/01\/king-salman-stadium-saudi-world-cup-final-populous\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">King Salman Stadium designed by Populous<\/a>, which is currently under construction ahead of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2024\/08\/01\/2034-world-cup-stadiums-saudi-arabia\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">2030 World Cup<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2243679 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/expo-2030-riyadh-masterplan-lava_dezeen_2364_col_0-2-852x479.jpg\" alt=\"Aerial render of World Expo site in Saudi Arabia\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1330\"  \/>The masterplan was informed by nature<\/p>\n<p>Set to take place between 1 October 2030 and 31 March 2031, Riyadh Expo 2030\u00a0will be curated under the title The Era of Change: Together for a Foresighted Tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p>It is one of several international events due to take place in the country over the coming years, with the World Cup in 2030 and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2022\/10\/05\/trojena-saudi-ski-resort-neom-asian-winter-games-zaha-hadid-unstudio\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Asian Winter Games set to be hosted in the Trojena ski resort<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>LAVA is also masterplanning <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/trojena\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Trojena<\/a>, which forms part of the wider <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/neom\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Neom<\/a> mega project, where the studio is also designing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2024\/01\/11\/neom-reveals-upside-down-skyscraper-inside-gulf-of-aqaba-mountain\/#:~:text=%22Aquelleum%20is%20an%20ultra%2Dluxury,is%20focused%20to%20the%20outside.%22\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a &#8220;upside-down skyscraper&#8221;
