On heels of latest single \u201cLoser,\u201d Kevin Parker\u2019s band will drop much-anticipated follow-up to The Slow Rush on October 17<\/p>\n

\n\tTame Impala<\/a> have escalated from \u201cLoser<\/a>\u201d to Deadbeat in the span of one day: After the Kevin Parker-fronted band\u2019s latest single arrived on Wednesday, the group has officially announced their upcoming fifth studio album.<\/p>\n

\n\tDeadbeat arrives on October 17 via Columbia Records \u2014 Tame Impala\u2019s first LP on the label \u2014 with the announcement coming on the heels of the album\u2019s first two singles, the seven-minute dance track \u201cEnd of Summer<\/a>\u201d and the just-released Beck-citing \u201cLoser\u201d<\/a> with its Joe Keery-starring video.<\/p>\n

\n\tParker had previously described his long-awaited follow-up to 2020\u2019s The Slow Rush as \u201ckind of a future primitive rave act,\u201d and an accompanying press release for Deadbeat reiterates that vibe, citing Western Australia\u2019s rave scene and bush doof culture as inspiration.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tHowever, the lyrics channel \u201can endless bummer, a self-deprecating fuck-up stuck in a negative feedback loop when he should have long had his shit together\u201d as Parker navigates through domestic life. Deadbeat\u2019s album cover, contrary to the title, features a photo of Parker and (presumably) his toddler-aged daughter:<\/p>\n
