The Victorian Racing Tribunal has released footage of disgraced Melbourne Cup-winning trainer Darren Weir using a banned electrical shock device on racehorses.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Weir was banned from racing for two years for using the device, known as a jigger, on three horses at his Warrnambool stables a week before the 2018 Melbourne Cup.<\/p>\n

The released footage, dated October 2018, shows Weir administering electrical shocks to three horses as they gallop on a treadmill.<\/p>\n

Weir can be seen looking around before touching the device to each horse about eight times.<\/p>\n

The ABC understands the same video was shown at his tribunal hearing in March 2024.<\/p>\n

In July 2024, Weir was prohibited from training racehorses until September 2026 for using the jigger.<\/p>\n

He had previously been banned for four years for possessing the device.<\/p>\n

Weir’s lawyers argued the two-year ban for using the jigger should be backdated, as he had already completed a four-year ban for possessing the jiggers.<\/p>\n

In September 2024, the tribunal decided not to backdate the ban <\/a>as Weir operated an unlicensed pre-training business for 18 months between 2023 and 2024.<\/p>\n
