Reports of a \u201cpossible\u201d tornado in Perth\u2019s eastern suburbs have been debunked but heavy rain and damaging winds continue to lash the State.<\/p>\n

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services revealed the State Emergency Service team responded to 27 calls concerning storm damage across the metro and South West regions on Friday.<\/p>\n

At about 1.30pm, what is being described on social media as a possible tornado was seen in High Wycombe.<\/p>\n

\u201cA possible weak tornado has formed in High Wycombe, near the Perth metro area at 1.26pm today,\u201d the Severe Weather Australia Facebook page said.<\/p>\n

But the Bureau of Meteorology said it does not currently have evidence of a tornado in High Wycombe.<\/p>\n

\u201cA line of gusty showers moved over Perth\u2019s eastern suburbs around 1.10pm, producing a damaging wind gust in High Wycombe,\u201d the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere was not a thunderstorm in the area at the time, and there is not yet evidence of a funnel cloud reaching the ground in this area.\u201d<\/p>\n

The State Emergency Service received 11 calls for assistance from people living in Kalamunda and High Wycombe who suffered roof damage and water ingress.<\/p>\n

Photos circulating social media show tiles missing from roofs, flooded backyards and broken trees.<\/p>\n

The Weather Bureau issued a spate of warnings ahead of the weekend, telling WA residents to expect severe thunderstorms, heavy rainfall and damaging winds.<\/p>\n

The wild weather is expected to impact the western coast throughout Friday and Saturday as a cold front moves over the State.<\/p>\n

Some parts of the city are expected to have 50 to 60mm of rain batter down on Friday alone.<\/p>\n

Rainfall will continue in the metropolitan area throughout Saturday and Sunday, with 15mm expected to fall each day.<\/p>\n

The Weather Bureau issued a strong wind warning for the WA coast, spanning from the Ningaloo Coast down to Cape Leeuwin, forecasting the metropolitan region may see winds reaching 61km\/h.<\/p>\n

The South West and Great Southern regions will bear the brunt of the damaging winds, with weather officials warning residents south of Bunbury will see winds of up to 87km\/h.<\/p>\n

Locations experiencing the heaviest impact of the thunderstorms include Mandurah, Rottnest Island, Armadale, Dwellingup, Fremantle and Pinjarra.<\/p>\n
